This week truly renewed our love of hockey.

The Gator Cup brought together players of all levels — from house league to AAA, boys and girls — all sharing the ice for the love of the game. Seeing the smiles from every player, coach, and spectator was a reminder of what hockey is really all about.

Teammates and friends from throughout the season suddenly became opponents for the weekend, yet every single game was played with incredible sportsmanship, respect, and heart.
Congratulations to our U11 Champions — The Missing Chicklets and our U13 Champions — P&G Express!

A special thank you to Mark Smith for once again going above and beyond to bring this tournament to life. Your dedication to the kids and the game does not go unnoticed.

Thank you as well for raising $4,000 for Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation. Because of this generosity, even more youth will now have the opportunity to participate in sports and events just like this. A special thank you to the referees, linesmen, and scorekeepers, whose contributions helped make this donation possible.

And thank you to every single player, coach, parent, sibling, and spectator who helped make this weekend so special. The energy in the rink reminded us all why we love this game so much.

This week, Sammy’s Climb Higher Foundation was incredibly honored to present the Sammy’s Shining Star Award to one player from each team in CBR Minor Hockey Association’s U11, U13, and U15 House League program.

Chosen by their coaches, this award recognizes the player who best exemplifies sportsmanship, teamwork, determination, and bravery.

It is presented to a player who plays for the love of the game, who shines both on and off the ice, who encourages teammates to never give up, and who shows determination, positivity, and heart in everything they do. Above all, it honors a player who continues to Climb Higher, just like Sam did.

🏒 Beyond the Boards Award 🏒

We are incredibly proud to share that the first-ever Beyond the Boards Awards were presented at the U13 and U15 AAA Female Provincials.

Created in memory of our special teammates in the sky - Sam Porter and Lincoln Walsh

The Beyond the Boards Award recognizes a player who understands that hockey is about far more than what happens between the boards. It celebrates young athletes who show that true success is measured not only by skill or score, but by character, kindness, sportsmanship, and the way they lift others up.

Inspired by Lincoln’s fiery passion for being a great teammate and Sam’s unwavering spirit of determination and encouragement, this award honours players who lead with heart and remind us that leadership and sportsmanship extend far beyond the game itself.

Seeing the stands full of love and support reminded us that while our boys may be out of sight, their impact is immeasurable. Your presence meant more than words can ever express.

Sammy’s Gear Up Equipment Room at Robert French Memorial Stadium has a great selection of gently used skates so kids and families can enjoy the ice this winter.

Exciting news! 🤩 The Community Park Outdoor Skating Rink is officially open for the winter season!

⛸ Open daily (weather permitting) from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., with a brief daily closure from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. for ice maintenance, or as conditions warrant.

The Conception Bay Senior Blues are hosting their Superhero Hockey Game on Sunday, January 18 at 2:00 PM, and we’re looking for volunteers to help make it a huge success!

We’re seeking volunteers to:

🏒 Help with Chuck-a-Puck sales

If you can spare some time before or during the game, we’d love to have you join us. It’s a fun atmosphere, a great community event, and all support helps make this special day even better!

We are so grateful for the amazing support shown during Cram the Zam for Sam. Because of our generous community, we collected enough food and toys to help a number of families this Christmas.

A heartfelt thank you to the U13 AAA Eastern Ice Breakers Black for organizing and bringing this all together.

Many families delayed applying for holiday assistance with the sincere hope of providing for their loved ones independently. Unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances can arise, leaving families in need of additional support.

We invite the community to come together for a late holiday food and toy drive to help support these families and bring comfort and joy to their Christmas season.

By working together as a community, our goal is to fill an entire Zamboni with food and toys! 🧸🍽️ Every donation brings us closer to cramming the Zam and making a big impact for families in need.

Community donations of toys and non-perishable food items are greatly appreciated and will directly benefit local families. Every contribution—big or small—helps us reach our goal. 💙
