Our hearts are with everyone affected by the tragic events at CFB Wainwright this weekend. We extend our deepest sympathies to the families, friends, military personnel and communities impacted.

During times like these, we are reminded of the importance of coming together and supporting one another.

One way we can help, even from here in Cold Lake, is by donating blood. Patients with serious burns and injuries can require significant amounts of blood and plasma during treatment and recovery.

Blood donations are distributed across Canada to hospitals and patients where they are needed most. By donating locally, you can help support the national blood supply and those who depend on it.

If you are able, please consider booking an appointment through Canadian Blood Services at www.blood.ca.

Sparkle in the Park is coming back!

From November 29 to December 5, the M.D. of Bonnyville Cold Lake Campground will once again be transformed into a festive holiday experience for our community.

Today, on the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we honour the lives, stories and legacies of Jody John and Nancy Scanie.

Yesterday, their families, Elders, community members and special guests gathered at the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre to recognize the permanent installation of their portraits from Susie O’Connor’s Red Series. Images Studios

Jody was a powwow dancer, storyteller and cultural ambassador who shared his gifts across Canada and around the world. Nancy was an Elder, activist, peacemaker and Keeper of the Water who spent her life advocating for Indigenous rights, women, children, the land and the water. Their families’ words reminded us that these portraits hold much more than an image. They carry love, strength, culture, memory and legacy.

The portraits were donated by Susie to the Hearts for Healthcare gala and purchased by the Coosemans family of Superior Concrete Pumping - 2001 Ltd., who chose the Cold Lake Healthcare Centre as their permanent home. Here, Jody and Nancy’s stories will remain visible throughout the year.

We are grateful to the families for sharing this moment with us, to the Elders who offered their guidance and support, and to Gabrielle Whiskeyjack for helping connect Susie with participants in the Red Series. Thank you to everyone who helped bring these portraits to their permanent home.

Today, we remember that reconciliation requires us to listen to the truth, honour the people whose stories are being shared and carry what we learn into the choices we make every day.
