The Cold Lake John Howard Society Emergency Shelter is open to adults (18 and older) who are experiencing homelessness in Cold Lake and surrounding areas. The shelter provides a low-barrier, safe, and supportive environment for individuals in need of emergency housing, regardless of background or circumstances.
We serve people who may be facing:
- Chronic or temporary homelessness due to financial hardship, eviction, job loss, or other crises.
- Displacement from housing due to domestic violence, unsafe living conditions, or personal safety concerns.
- Mental health challenges that impact their ability to maintain stable housing.
- Substance use challenges, recognizing that addiction is a complex issue that requires support, not exclusion.
While we strive to accommodate all individuals in need, there may be situations where alternative housing or support options are recommended, especially for individuals with high medical needs, families with children, or those requiring specialized care. In these cases, our staff will help connect individuals with appropriate services and resources.
The shelter is inclusive and non-discriminatory, welcoming individuals of all genders, ethnic backgrounds, and identities. We are committed to creating a space that is respectful, culturally safe, and accessible to everyone.
