Today, we’re proud to introduce Candy Weisner, Vice-President of the Cochrane Immigrant Services Committee (CISC).

Candy has been a champion of welcoming and inclusive communities for many years. Her passion for supporting newcomers helped shape the early growth of CISC, and she continues to inspire those around her through her dedication to community connection, cultural understanding, and lifelong learning.

We are grateful for Candy’s leadership, wisdom, and unwavering belief that communities grow stronger when everyone feels welcomed, valued, and included. Thank you, Candy, for the many ways you help make Cochrane a place where people can truly belong.

We have a confession to make… we almost forgot to shout out someone truly special, and we simply cannot let that stand!

A massive, overdue thank you to the wonderful Patty Fraser from the Tsuu T’ina Nation, who blessed us with her incredible Indigenous Style Fry Bread 🤩 honestly, words don’t do it justice. People were going back for seconds (and thirds, let’s be honest).

And of course, our endlessly talented Kelly Gordon from Alberta Land Based Education, member of the Gwich’ya Gwich’in-Inuvialuit-Deneta nation, whose Inuit Donuts and Berry Jam had everyone swooning. 😍

These two women brought so much warmth, generosity, and cultural richness to our table and we are beyond grateful. Our community is truly better for having them in it.

Thank you Patty. Thank you Kelly. You are absolute legends. 🧡

Did you complete the 2026 Census? It’s not too late! 📋

Census data helps determine how federal and provincial funding is allocated to municipalities and regions. Accurate population counts can influence investments in roads, emergency services, healthcare facilities, schools, recreation programs, and community infrastructure.

In a growing community like Cochrane, your response helps ensure we have the services and supports to meet everyone’s needs, including newcomers. Complete yours at census.gc.ca.

What an incredible afternoon! Yesterday’s Cultural Cooking Without Borders event was everything we hoped for and more, smiles and absolutely delicious food!

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the amazing Kelly Gordon from Alberta Land Based Education, member of the Gwich’ya Gwich’in-Inuvialuit-Deneta nation, for sharing her knowledge, her culture, and her incredible recipes with us. Those Inuit Donuts and Berry Jam? We’re still thinking about them.

Thank you to everyone who showed up, rolled up their sleeves, and made this such a special community moment. Events like this are only possible because of YOU.

And of course, a deep thank you to our generous sponsors and partners: Alberta Government, TWO Pharmacy, Rotary Club of Cochrane, Frank Wills Community Hall, Town of Cochrane, and Rocky View Immigrant Services (RVIS), your support means the world to us and to the communities we serve.

This is exactly what cooking without borders looks like!
