Excited for our group hike tomorrow! This is a great opportunity for registered climbers, friends, family, and our community to get to know one another while out training in the mountains. We'll trade training and fundraising tips while encouraging each other in the fight against trafficking. Praying for no snow but we'll be prepared! See you out there!

April 19 - 25th is Volunteer Appreciation Week! Freedom 8848 is a volunteer-run organization, and we couldn't accomplish anything without our dedicated volunteers who show up to run the Everest Freedom Challenge every year. Volunteer crew are truly the reason climbers feel so loved and celebrated at the EFC.

We are so grateful for our chefs, who are serving (longer than) sun-up to sun-down making hot breakfast for climbers and making sure the last returning climbers receive a nourishing dinner. Thank you to those who shuttle climbers safely and swiftly to and from their hikes, the guides encouraging climbers up the mountains, and our emergency medical professionals helping to ward off dehydration and injury. Thank you to the musically gifted who lead worship at camp.

And we can't forget our climber care team, aka 'Mountain Mamas," who shower climbers with love, celebration, comfort, and snacks. We are so grateful for everyone who is willing to serve, often year after year, taking time out of their lives to make the EFC an unforgetable experience.

This summer we'll be climbing the height of Mount Everest right here in the Kananaskis to raise support for organizations fighting human trafficking and s*xual exploitation. It's a mountain-sized problem, but we know mountains can be conquered one step at a time. Together. Will you join us? Details in the link in our bio.

At the Anti-Trafficking Summit last month, Robin from International Justice Mission Canada shared such a motivating message about moving forward to seek justice even when you're not ready. He shared about the first rescue mission of IJM's new field office in Bangladesh. The rescue team didn't have all the resources or information they needed for a perfect rescue mission, but the stakes were too high to wait any longer. Young women and girls were being sold for s*x every day they waited. So they moved forward with the operation and while it didn't go perfectly, they managed to rescue many young women and girls from further abuse. Robin reminded us that if you wait around for everything to line up perfectly, you may wait forever. The time to take action is now.

One of the repeated stories I hear from EFC climbers over the years is that they felt convicted to help victims of human trafficking, even though they weren't sure they were the person for the job. Often when everyone gathers at camp on the eve of EFC, many people feel nervous and unsure they have trained physically enough for the challenge ahead of them. But they have committed to action. They offer their best at the time, and most of the time are surprised by what they could accomplish. Because someone has to do something to end s*x trafficking. It's time to take action. You are more ready than you think.

At our recent Anti-Trafficking Summit, HER Victory CEO Jacquie Meyer shared about how they are meeting the most basic needs of women in Calgary facing s*x trafficking and exploitation. "If you want to restore dignity, start with a shower." HER Victory's team forms trusting relationships with women by meeting their needs, whether it's clothing, food, counselling, prayer, and yes, showers! Caring for them shows them that they matter, they have worth, they are loved.

Ending s*x trafficking is a complex and multi-faceted problem, and sometimes the magnitude of the problem stops us from even trying to make a difference. HER Victory shows us that serving the one and showing up again and again is making a difference. When you sign up for the Everest Freedom Challenge, you can choose to support HER Victory's work. Sign up today at the link in our bio. Who are you climbing for?

Canada has a human trafficking problem.

Every day, women and children are bought and sold in our biggest cities and our smallest towns. If that breaks your heart, then we’d like to offer you the chance to make a difference.

Take the Everest Freedom Challenge.

Each year, 30 brave individuals tackle the elevation of Mount Everest in the Canadian Rockies, raising the critical funds and awareness needed to combat s*xual exploitation. Will you be one of them? You don’t need to be an athlete, you just need to care.

The EFC is an opportunity to raise awareness and funds for our partner organizations International Justice Mission, HER Victory, and Ally Global Foundation. When you sign up to climb, you can choose which partner you will support in their efforts to prevent s*x trafficking, rescue victims, and restore survivors. You'll be making a tangible difference in the fight against trafficking and exploitation.

The Everest Freedom Challenge. Register today.

Makwa Dodem is Ally Global Foundation's Indigenous-led program working to equip and empower Indigenous communities to prevent s*xual exploitation. At our recent Anti-Trafficking Summit, Makwa Dodem founders shared about the impact they are having as they partner with Indigenous Communities in Alberta and Saskatchewan. They spoke candidly about the colonial history and other factors which have contributed to the over-representation of Indigenous women amongst Canada's reported cases of s*x trafficking. They also shared a story of hope from Carleen, a leader in one of the communities they have partnered with:

"The tools that Makwa Dodem has provided us, with the resources Ally has, will empower our future generations to move forward without having to respond to crisis. . .You might think it's just information. But it saves lives.” - Carleen

Thank you Ally Global for sharing and for your work! If you are inspired to support Ally Global and Makwa Dodem in a meaningful way, sign up for the Everest Freedom Challenge at the link in our bio.
