9:30am-5pm including holidays until Labour Day Monday The Alberta Birds of Prey Foundation, located in Coaldale, Ab, is Alberta's first privately licensed raptor rescue and conservation organization, and is a licensed charity whose mission is to preserve and prot

ect wildlife to and educate the public. We also participate in captive breeding and release of endangered species, such as Burrowing Owls, study and monitor wild birds of prey populations and encourage positive habitat stewardship through increased public environmental awareness. As a non-political organization, we are not environmental critics or watch-dogs. Our strategy is to roll up our sleeves and initiate hands-on practical solutions which directly benefit wildlife and our environment. We do not receive any government operating subsidies. We rely solely on donations in addition to people generously donating their time.

Our chitty chatty Ferruginous Hawk “Joy” has lots to say!

Did you know?
Ferruginous Hawks have such large mouths they can swallow an entire ground squirrel in just a few gulps- no knives or forks needed!

Gordon is one of the Centre’s oldest residents. Turning 24 this last spring, he’s a true ambassador of his species and one of our most beloved owls.

When Gordon isn’t out rubbing feathers at events, he can be found at the Centre on his favourite perch looking fabulous… or not after a cool shower.

Gordon likes dining on mice at twilight and cool breezes on warm summer days. He also enjoys the Spring rain.

Gordon dislikes dogs 👎

It's been a VERY rainy few days but we've been so pleased to continue our environmental education work by welcoming school tours to the Centre.
Special thanks to Vauxhall students, teachers and parents for braving that crazy rain... the ducks were especially happy to have visitors!

One of the most moving experiences visitors have is being able to interact with our Educational Ambassador Owls.

These specially trained birds are permanent residents, unable to be released back to the wild for various reasons like lasting wing injuries, blindness or human imprinting.

They help us teach visitors of all ages about their species, wildlife conservation in Southern Alberta and our rescue and release work.

We are open to the public everyday, 9:30am-5:00pm until Labour Day Monday.

Don't miss your chance to see these beautiful birds up close and learn a bit more about their stories and their species!

Visit burrowingowl.com for more info on admission fees, program times and our wildlife rescue work.

We fly our Bald Eagles and Red-tailed hawks throughout the day and visitors are invited to watch and learn about these beautiful species as the birds get their daily exercise.

When they’re done flying they love nothing more than a nice refreshing shower… courtesy of you!
