It’s National Volunteer Week, and we’re celebrating the people who make prevention possible in communities across Alberta.

Every hour volunteered strengthens belonging, reduces isolation, and helps people stay connected to the supports they need.

To every volunteer who shows up with compassion, consistency and care — thank you. You are the heart of prevention.

Imagine your child is watching their favourite show or is deeply immersed in a game.

You let them know that time’s up ... and the fight begins. Yelling, whining, complaining or the never-ending, “Just five more minutes!”

Sound familiar? Well, you’re not alone. Screen time tantrums are common and don’t mean you’re doing anything wrong.

Screens aren’t just fun; they’re designed to keep us coming back for more.

Many apps and games give little dopamine rewards (the brain’s feel-good chemical) that make it harder to step away.

And for young children still learning to manage big emotions, like frustration and disappointment, that’s a tough landing.

With positive parenting, you can help your kids slow down and switch off.
Our latest article is full of simple, practical tips to help kids of all ages build healthier screen time habits: https://www.triplep-parenting.net.au/au/articles-and-news/post/pressing-pause-on-tech-tantrums/

Collecting is one of the simplest ways we build relationship with our kids. It’s not complicated.

To collect a child is to move toward them in a warm, friendly way— to gather their eyes, their ears, their attention or whatever works for them sensory wise — and to let them feel your interest in being with them.

We often talk about attachment as if it’s something complex to figure out.
But it is built in the small, ordinary moments of everyday life.
When we pause…
when we notice…
when we reflect…
when we invite connection…
we are saying something that matters deeply: You matter to me.

Collecting is how we warm up the relationship again and again— through the flow of the day. And when relationship is there, so much else becomes possible.
