YCS Food Security Supporting a sustainable and inclusive food system in the North Thompson We support all residents of the North Thompson in their quest for food security.

The YCS Food Security Program is part of Yellowhead Community Services, a non-profit social services agency in Clearwater, BC. We offer cooking and gardening workshops, resources and information, and we collaborate with other organizations to enhance our local food systems. We operate a community kitchen and community garden and are the community partner for our local BC Association of Farmers Markets Nutrition Coupon Program.

In support of the Raise a Reader Fundraiser, we will have freshly baked mini-apple pies (and frozen vacuum sealed), cozy merino wool socks and North River books for sale at the Clearwater Farmer's Market on Sept 26. All funds raised are matched by the Province of BC and stay 100% in our community for literacy programs such as Adult and Youth Tutoring, Community Income Tax Program, Tumble Bumble, Come Read With Me, Bright Red Bookshelf and more!

EDIT***CLASS IS NOW FULL** We are teaming up with Kamloops Immigrant Services to offer a special new four-part monthly series called "Cultural Cooking Connections"! Guest facilitators will be sharing their family recipes and traditional foods - leading participants in these hand-on workshops that culminates in a fabulous flavourful feast! Nishant moved to Kamloops in 2013 to attend TRU. Nishant is a local REALTOR® with Century 21 Assurance Realty Ltd. (Kamloops) and a Red Seal Chef with a passion for food, hospitality, and community. Before entering real estate, Nishant worked in restaurants and hotels, building extensive culinary experience and a strong appreciation for the flavours and traditions of Indian cuisine. Nishant combines his professional career in real estate with his love of cooking and is excited to share his culinary knowledge, favourite recipes, and passion for food with the community.
