Clearwater & District Chamber of Commerce We believe local businesses are shaping Clearwater’s future.

By uniting entrepreneurs, creators, and changemakers across our economy, we’re building more than commerce—we’re building connection, resilience, and shared prosperity.

Shout out to Comox Valley Chamber of Commerce for explaining 'What is the Chamber?' so well!

Because honestly… we get asked this question more than we get asked about the weather.
(And this is Clearwater — so that’s saying something.) 🌧️😅

Think you know what your Chamber actually does?
Prove it. Watch the video. Report back. 🧐

PS: We’re not government.
We don’t even pretend to be government.
We just get things done. 💪😉

On June 1, BC's minimum wage will increase to $18.25 per hour; a 2.1% increase tied to last year's average inflation rate.

Attached is a member explainer that breaks down what's changing, why small businesses are concerned, and what the real cost impact looks like beyond the 40-cent hourly increase. It covers the wage ladder effect, hidden payroll costs (CPP, EI, WorkSafeBC premiums), and the compounding pressure of the upcoming PST expansion on October 1.

🎉 A big thank‑you to the NNorth Thompson Communities Foundation!🎉

We’re grateful for their support in helping the Clearwater & District Chamber of Commerce purchase a new projector and portable screen.

This upgrade will help us run greener, paper‑light meetings and improve how we share information with our members 🌿💼

We’ve ordered the new equipment and look forward to using it at our next Board Meeting! 📽️✨

👉DRIPA update for Clearwater businesses

On April 8, 2026 the Province paused some elements of the Declaration of Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (DRIPA) to allow courts to clarify whether alignment with UNDRIP should occur immediately or over time. “This creates uncertainty around permitting, timelines, and how to engage with First Nations to move projects forward.” — BC Chamber member briefing, April 8, 2026.

What we’re offering members:

🔹A concise debrief summarizing what changed and what to watch.

🔹Plain‑language guidance on potential impacts to permitting, project timelines, and community engagement.

🔹A Q&A session (virtual) if there’s enough interest.

If you’d like the debrief document or want to join a short Q&A, reply below or DM us and we’ll send the summary.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the Clearwater & District Chamber of Commerce presentation on AI and regional innovation with Mike Gilliland.

The livestream of that session will be on this page for a week or so, so watch it now before its gone!

The session explored practical ways AI can be used to support local businesses, improve operations, surface funding and grant opportunities, assist with research, and help strengthen broader resilience-focused initiatives in our region.

For those who would like to follow future updates related to these topics, Mike has invited attendees to sign up for his Intel Dashboard at https://intel.portal.place/ This will be the main place to receive updates on AI-related tools, regional opportunities, policy research, land-based projects, and future meetups or presentations.
