Welcome to fall in the Maritimes!
This is just a quick reminder to MacNeils and their friends that the last meeting of the year will be held next month in Christmas Island, on Sunday, October 25th. We will be discussing this year's Clan Day and any changes that we'd like to make.
If you attended this year's festivities and would like to add a comment, please do email us at clanmacneilap at gmail.com and your ideas will be included in our discussion.

Here's something interesting! At the recent Clan MacNeil Day, the most common surname in the hall was, you guessed it, MacNeil, with various spellings.

But what were the most common given names?

Well, for the ladies, the most heard name was "Ann Marie" (both spellings of "Anne"), with the runner-up set at "Betty."

For the gentlemen, it was a tie! The most heard names were "Neil" and "John."

So how many John, Neil, and Ann Marie MacNeils do you have in your family tree? The answer is most likely "Too Many!!"

We would like to take a moment to thank all of you for coming to our Clan MacNeil Day on July 31st at the Iona Parish Hall. The hall was filled with MacNeils from as far west as Alberta, over from PEI, and up from the Boston States and the really wonderful thing? We were all related! The afternoon was so much fun and we can't wait to do it all again next year.
Our thanks go to Kaj Udby and Susan MacLean for providing the music, to Charlene's in Whycocomagh for the absolutely delicious treats, and to each of the volunteers who did everything to keep the event flowing smoothly, from putting out signs to cleaning up the hall afterwards.
Our thanks also go out to Father Ray Huntley and Minister Margie MacIntyre, whose blessing at the MacNeil Cairn acknowledged our history in Cape Breton and brought some of us to tears.
We would also like to warmly welcome all of our new members - your support of our efforts is greatly appreciated.
Thank you, thank you, thank you - it was an awesome afternoon!

Reminder:

This Friday, July 31st, starting at 2 pm, you'll find a whole bunch of MacNeils at the Iona Parish Hall, all enjoying tea and biscuits, good music, and the company of family and friends!

Why not stop in and take a look at the Clan MacNeil merchandize, or buy a 50/50 ticket (you could be a Lucky MacNeil!), or chat with Clan Genealogist Vince MacNeil? You could also support the Clan by buying a membership - only $10 a year.

We'd love to see you there!

Clan MacNeil Day, July 31st, 2026

2:00 pm:
Meet and Greet at the Iona Parish Hall, which is on the hill overlooking St. Columba Church. A beautiful spot! There will be lots of tea with delicious (we know the caterer) cookies and biscuits.
3:00 - 5:00 pm:
Entertainment will be provided by local musicians and yes, there will be refills of tea. We're hoping our President will give us a tune or two as well!
5:00 pm:
An ecumenical blessing will take place just down the hill at the Cairn.

What else is happening?
Vince MacNeil, the Clan MacNeil in Canada Genealogist, will be set up with his computer for all of your MacNeil family inquiries.
There will be a 50/50 draw; you could be the lucky winner!
Memberships ($10.00 a year) will be happily accepted - thank you for your support.
And of course, there will be a well-stocked merchandize table with lots of MacNeil items to show the world how proud you are to be a MacNeil.
