We are giddy with excitement to announce two new projects underway;

• Kimana community garden, and
• Narok community garden.

These two projects also mark our first two Kenyan locations, both in partnership with Maasai tribes.

The Maasai people have long lived as pastoralist cattle herders, moving with their animals across vast landscapes. But climate change and shrinking access to land are reshaping life in their communities. Many are now beginning to settle in one place and, for the first time, learning the skills of agriculture. These two new Well of Plenty projects supports that transition, helping Maasai families build food security, adapt to new realities, and shape a sustainable future.

Continuing the journey of sustainable growth and now equipped to make informed decisions, we support farmers in expanding their production. This may be through investing in organic fertilisers, introducing additional crops, animals or by installing drip irrigation systems at home. If and whichever they choose, they have the opportunity to apply for a microloan where cashflow is a barrier. The loans offered are with flexible repayment terms and never more than can be repaid within 6 months - often in half that time. Removing this short-term barrier paves the way to longterm independence and families flourishing. The profits returned yield life changing results - children can now go to school, health care can be afforded and other business ventures started. This is the beauty of Step 5 - Microloans to expand production and invest for longterm economic security.

Well of Plenty gardens often produce in such abundance that the growers are now able to sell these crops for much needed income. Each grower retains full autonomy and has free choice how and where they do so - which may be through Fruitful Mart, a Well of Plenty farmer collective.

This is Step 4: Enabling access to higher revenue markets through facilitating nationwide grower co-operatives and distribution.

Fruitful Mart helps smallholder farmers earn a dignified, dependable income by working together as a coordinated collective. Working as a co-operative, communities can consistently meet the volumes and quality demanded by premium buyers, who give significantly increased and predictable returns. The model also creates new jobs in local logistics further adding to the community's economic development and strength.

Fruitful Mart’s purpose is simple: Empower farmers through collective strength, ethical practices and stable market access so they can build lasting economic security.

To close knowledge gaps, businesses gather information to address the known unknowns—and though more challenging, uncovering the unknown unknowns is essential for managing risk. Access to the right information, and ideally a guide through unfamiliar territory, makes all the difference.

In rural Africa, that kind of guided analysis is rare. And so we developed Step 3:
We deliver farm‑management and economic development classes covering practical skills like accounting, maintenance, and growth planning for each household and community.

In doing so, Well of Plenty restores the dignity of knowledge, equipping individuals to make informed decisions that lead to profitable, sustainable results—independent of ongoing support.

Well of Plenty brings hands-on education to communities who are totally dependent on home-grown food for survival, so that their input yields much greater return. This is achieved at a multiplying scale through our partnership with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Malawi, where graduate pastors return to their rural villages with first hand experience of seed-to-harvest farming and management. All trainee pastors are given the opportunity to join the extra-curricular Well of Plenty growth programme and garden, which they attend before and after their classes. Here they are trained to be the trainer, eagerly passing on this newly attained skillset so that their communities might benefit.

This is Step 2; Learn by doing in Community Gardens
We build high-yield and organic community (learning) gardens, teaching around 30-40 people per cohort, to grow a diverse range of crops using low-cost and self-management technologies. Each community garden has extensive plots, serviced by drip irrigation (fed by the water supply in step 1) on church owned land. Free to participate, families and individuals are led by their pastor in generating their own vegetable gardens, growing plentiful and nutritious crops that were previously believed to be unattainable.

Well of Plenty is on a mission to build resilient communities that are food secure and economically empowered. Over the coming weeks we'll be sharing our five steps to build organic, high-yield gardens with continuous harvests, within rural communities, starting with;

Step 1
Deep boreholes to supply clean, reliable drinking water.
This water is freely available to anyone, enabling hydration, better health and hygiene to all. This water source is also utilised for the garden's drip irrigation systems in the next step.

Since its founding in 2019, the Well of Plenty has trained over 2.7k farmers across 3 Sub-Saharan African countries and counting. Read Doug's story sharing how, after decades of leading businesses, he was winding down activities and in its space the Lord presented an invitation to serve in a place where these exact skills would prove invaluable.

🌱 Have you seen our impact report? Highlights include 2,789 farmers trained, 1,076 kitchen gardens created and 820 pail kits distributed to date!

Malawi consistently ranks among the “poorest countries” in the world, from global poverty indices such as GDP per capita and GNI per capita, to multidimensional poverty measures—consistently showing extremely low incomes, widespread deprivation, and slow structural economic growth.

We’re working towards - and indeed are creating lasting transformation. The Well of Plenty’s training, infrastructure development, and community gardens are enabling some of ‘the least’ to change the trajectory of their lives, that of their family, their communities and laying foundations for the generations to come.

Together with practical hands-on learning in the gardens, we lead the Pastor, elected farm manager and all gardening community members through theory training. This gives all involved parties the knowledge and ability to make informed choices, to independently problem solve and have a toolkit of strategies for further growth.

🌱 Well of Plenty has trained 2,789 people in organic, high-yield farming. That’s over two and a half thousand families that now have an ongoing food supply that they have proudly grown.

The crops grown mean your family don’t have to fear if another meal is coming, their nutrition is diverse and health strengthened, and the yields so bountiful that they can share and sell to generate an income, in turn enabling the children to attend school.

Our heartfelt thanks to each donor that has made this possible. We eagerly look forward to seeing all the more food secure and economically empowered.
