Bonne Semaine des infirmières et infirmiers d’urgence !

Un immense merci aux infirmières et infirmiers d’urgence qui, jour après jour, répondent présents malgré l’imprévu, la pression et les défis de chaque quart de travail, à toute heure du jour et de la nuit, 365 jours par année !

Travailler à l’urgence, c’est devoir composer avec l’inattendu à chaque instant. C’est gérer l’adrénaline des situations critiques dans un environnement où tout va très vite, prendre des décisions importantes sous pression, vivre des moments déchirants, mais aussi avoir le privilège d’accompagner les patients et leurs proches dans les moments où ils ont le plus besoin de nous.

À toutes les infirmières et à tous les infirmiers d’urgence : votre travail compte, votre présence fait une différence et votre engagement a un impact réel. 

Votre savoir-faire, votre compassion, votre capacité à vous adapter à chaque situation, votre force face à l’adversité et votre solidarité font toute la différence. Merci pour votre engagement sans faille, peu importe les défis qui se présentent.

Dear NENA Members,
On September 30, we join people across Canada in observing the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
This day is an opportunity to honour residential school Survivors, remember the children who never came home, and recognize the lasting impact that residential schools continue to have on Indigenous Peoples, families, and communities.
The National Emergency Nurses Association acknowledges that we live, work, learn, and provide care on the traditional territories of Indigenous Peoples across Turtle Island, now known as Canada.
As emergency nurses, we acknowledge the responsibility in caring for people during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. On this day, we reaffirm our commitment to providing compassionate, culturally safe, and trauma-informed care for all.
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. It is reflected in the actions we take every day, learning from the history, addressing inequities in healthcare, and building relationships based on respect, trust, and partnership.
As we mark this day, let us take time to reflect, listen, and honour those affected. Together, we can continue to support healing and work toward a more equitable future.

Le 30 septembre, nous nous joignons aux personnes de partout au Canada pour souligner la Journée nationale de la vérité et de la réconciliation et la Journée du chandail orange.
Cette journée est l’occasion de rendre hommage aux survivants des pensionnats, d’honorer la mémoire des enfants qui ne sont jamais rentrés chez eux et de reconnaître les répercussions durables que les pensionnats continuent d’avoir sur les peuples, les familles et les communautés autochtones.
L’Association nationale des infirmières et infirmiers d’urgence reconnaît que nous vivons, travaillons, étudions et prodiguons des soins sur les territoires traditionnels des peuples autochtones de l’île de la Tortue, aujourd’hui appelée le Canada.

This feels like one of those moments that reminds me why I create.

A few weeks ago, I donated one of my healthcare puffin canvases. Today I learned it found its way to Emilie, a nurse, firefighter, and EMR.

I was told the piece brought her to tears.

The truth is, this artwork was never really about a puffin.

It was about the people behind the uniforms.

The ones who carry stress home but still show up tomorrow. The ones who use humour to survive things most of us will never see. The ones who keep answering the call, even when they're running on empty.

As artists, we put work out into the world and hope it connects with someone. Most of the time, we never know where it ends up or whose story it becomes part of.

Sometimes, though, a piece finds exactly the person it was meant for.

Thank you, Emilie, for everything you do for your community. I am honoured that this piece found a home with someone who spends so much of her life helping others.
