Thank you to the Chilliwack & District Seniors' Resources Society for invitation to speak at your DOWNSIZING event.

It was a great opportunity to share what we do, connect with members of the community, and show how items that are no longer needed can help someone else get a fresh start. We appreciated the opportunity to tell our story and meet so many lovely people who were interested in our work.

Thanks for including us in such a worthwhile event.

If you’re downsizing, please consider donating your gently used items for the kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom to Heather’s Hope Chest. We’ll make sure that your items will be carefully passed on to women and girls right here in our community.

The best kind of recycling isn’t what goes in the blue bin—it’s neighbours helping neighbours.

That extra set of sheets in your linen closet, the towels you no longer use, or the blanket tucked away on a shelf can become part of a fresh start for someone else in our community.

At Heather’s Hope Chest, we see it every day. Donations that are no longer needed in one home become treasured essentials in another. A simple act of clearing space in your closet helps create comfort, dignity, and a sense of home for women starting over.

So on Donation Day, June 6, think of it as community recycling at its best: neighbours helping neighbours, one towel, one blanket, and one act of kindness at a time.

Last night members of our Soroptimist club gathered in
a variety of homes for “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner”! Members signed up, received a surprise dinner destination, and were assigned something special to bring — appetizers, sides, desserts, etc.

Spending time together in smaller groups gives us the chance to truly get to know one another, share stories, and build friendships that make our club so special. It’s these moments of connection and conversation that remind us how important it is to come together — not just as members, but as friends. As you can tell from the photos… everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

It takes a team of incredible women like these to make the work of Heather’s Hope Chest so successful. Their compassion, creativity, dedication, and countless volunteer hours are what turn ideas into meaningful support for women in our community.

We are so proud to share that our collaboration with Carman United Church on the Community Kitchen Shower project received the “Celebrating Success” Award — an honour given to outstanding projects within Western Canada Region Soroptimist. This project showed the power of partnership and community, helping women in transition feel welcomed, supported, and cared for with the essentials needed to create a home.

I am so proud to be the Chair of this team. I am holding the “Diamond Award” in my hand and it will take its place in the Hope Chest very soon for all to see. To Sandy, Holly, Heather, Karen, Kalina , Linda, Anita, Gwen. Marilyn & Kim , and Juli, Sandra, and Lynda from Carman United Chilliwack, thank you. This recognition belongs to all of us. Together, we are making a tremendous difference in the lives of women and girls in our community. 💜
