June 12-14, the Fellowship of Enthusiasts for Amateur Radio (F.E.A.R., WA7SJI), in partnership with the National Park Service and the Stanwood-Camano Amateur Radio Club (W7PIG), will be activating a special event station commemorating the historic Pig War of 1859 on San Juan Island.

The event marks the anniversary of the unusual international dispute between the United States and Great Britain that began when American settler Lyman Cutlar shot a pig that was rooting in his garden. The incident ultimately led to a 13-year military standoff before the boundary dispute was peacefully resolved.

Operations will take place from American Camp National Historical Park on San Juan Island. Multiple HF stations will be active throughout the weekend operating CW, SSB, and digital modes.

Special Event Call Sign: W7PIG

We had a great session last night. Brad gave us a talk about his time with the Surrey Amateur Radio Club's Foxhunt (https://www.ve7sar.net/activities/fox-hunt). It looks like we are looking at doing something similar for our club. Maybe we can collaborate with the Surrey club for a future event in our back yard.
