We’re pleased to once again support Chartwell’s Stuff the Bus initiative in support of The Salvation Army Chilliwack Food Bank!

Throughout the summer, Chilliwack Hospice Society staff and volunteers collected non-perishable food items for the Senior Food Program, helping support older adults in our community. Pictured with our contributions is Volodymyr Ivashyna from our office, ready to help stuff the bus!

There’s still time to take part today: Chartwell Retirement Residences and The Salvation Army Chilliwack are collecting donations at Bob Chan-Kent Family YMCA until 1 p.m. Bring along your non-perishable food donations and help fill that Chartwell bus for neighbours in our community.

We’re grateful to everyone involved in this community-wide effort to help ensure local seniors have access to the food and support they need. 🩵

We’re proud to be joining the 2026 Chilliwack Pride Festival next Sunday, Aug. 23, at Central Community Park! 🏳️‍🌈✨

Get ready for a full day of inclusion, glitter, joy, and celebration, with local drag artists, live bands, circus acts, and more. This year’s theme celebrates growing through education and awareness, giving through volunteerism, and glowing by helping make our community a more welcoming place. We’re looking forward to connecting with our 2SLGBTQ+ community, sharing resources, and celebrating Pride together. 🩵🌈

Want to help make the festival happen? Volunteers are still needed, with an orientation this Sunday, Aug. 16, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Central Community Park.

See you at Chilliwack PRIDE!

Sometimes 😭 😢 🥺 just don’t quite cover it.

Grief can look like a wave that catches you by surprise. 🌊 It can mean a low battery and a need for rest. It can also include a walk outside, a cup of coffee with someone who gets it, setting a boundary, sharing a memory, asking for support — and even moments of joy alongside the sadness.

If we were designing the emoji keyboard, we’d make a little more room for all of it. 🩵

There is no single way grief is supposed to look. Finding ways to care for yourself, stay connected, and cope with what you’re experiencing can be part of living with loss.

So, what did we miss? What grief, self-care, or support emoji do YOU wish existed? 👇

Second Step Grief Peer Support Group offers ongoing, peer-led support for people who are grieving the death of a loved one, whether the death was recent or many years ago. Led by trained Chilliwack Hospice Society volunteers Lee White and Mary Petrescu, the group provides a welcoming space for participants to share experiences, listen and contribute to facilitated discussions, and walk alongside others on their grief journey.

Second Step is grounded in connection, understanding, and mutual support. The group meets twice a month: on the first Thursday from 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Chilliwack Hospice Society for a regular group meeting, and on the third Thursday at 12:00 p.m. for lunch at a local restaurant chosen by the group. The meal is at the participants’ own cost. Participants do not need to have attended another Hospice Society group before joining; for some, Second Step may be the right pace and atmosphere for support.

For more information, or to join Second Step Grief Peer Support Group, please contact Deanna Fedorkew, Community Education Manager, at (604) 795-4660 or email [email protected].

This Chilliwack Hospice Society program is provided free of cost thanks to the generosity of individual donors and businesses in our community.
