☀️This past weekend, United Way BC's Sardis team gathered at Sardis Public Library for a Legacy Networking event. A dozen community members and Community Champions didn't let the gloomy weather get them down as they united to celebrate the impact they have made in their neighbourhood.

🌟Led by Community Builder Teri and Community Engagement Specialist, Elizabeth, the group shared experiences and explored new ways to continue strengthening local connections as this Chilliwack neighbourhood transitions from an active community to a legacy community, where members continue building upon their strengths to lead meaningful change. The group reflected on the work they have done to secure and deepen relationships, and shared valuable lessons to carry forward. They will also get lots of tips and tools from the new Community Champions' Workbook for Community Engagement. Join Valley Shidokan Karate Club for a unique 5-week course crafted specifically for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, focusing on practical skills for self-protection, situational awareness, and personal empowerment. This supportive and inclusive class is designed to help you feel more confident and prepared, whether you’re new to these techniques or looking to refresh your skills. No previous experience is necessary—everyone is welcome!

Course Details:

Dates: Wednesdays - January 8, 15, 22, 29, and February 5
Time: Classes start at 7 PM
Location: Valley Shidokan Karate Club
Cost: Sliding scale - $20 to $100 for the full 5-week course

United Way BC Sardis Community Update!

Thanks to the dedication and creativity of Sardis neighbours who have stepped up to lead, inspire, and support one another, United Way British Columbia is proud to announce that the Sardis Hi Neighbour Initiative will now be transitioning into its Legacy Phase!

This milestone reflects the countless ways we’ve activated our neighbourhood—by coming together to share ideas, celebrate successes, and create lasting connections that will continue to thrive for years to come.

Over the past years, the Hi Neighbour Sardis Community Initiative has achieved remarkable successes:

Community Engagement: The initiative has fostered strong connections among residents, enhancing the sense of community and belonging.

Support for Seniors: Events like "Coffee with Seniors" have provided valuable social interaction and support for our senior neighbours.

Volunteer Opportunities: The initiative has offered numerous opportunities for residents to volunteer and make a meaningful impact in their community.

Community Celebrations: Events have brought together thousands of local organizations and residents every year to celebrate our collective community achievements.

Key Dates:

Local Love Fund Applications: Accepting final applications until December 31st, 2024, 5 PM. Projects must be completed by February 28th, 2025, to be eligible.

Closing Celebration: A celebration during spring break in March 2025 will recognize the collective impacts and stories of community champions.

Official Closure: The Sardis Hi Neighbour Initiative will officially close on March 31st, 2025.

As we transition into the Legacy Phase, the spirit of connection and collaboration that has defined the Sardis Hi Neighbour Initiative will continue to inspire and guide us.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to create and share a Sardis Community Capacity Building Guide—a resource designed to empower individuals and groups to bring their visions for a thriving neighborhood to life - AKA - your go-to resource for transforming passion into progress and ensuring the Sardis legacy lives on.

Together, we can continue to build a connected, resilient, and vibrant future for all.
