Hi, Chatham-Kent. My name is Carlos. I’m a 17 year old student from Wallaceburg going into grade 12 this fall at UCC. I’m looking to start something special this summer with my good friend Ethan (who will be attending McMaster University for engineering in the fall). Through the small business center, I’ve been given a $3000 grant to launch something I really believe in: BrickBots, a LEGO robotics summer camp for youth ages 12-16. This camp is designed to introduce STEM to kids in Chatham-Kent in a way that is engaging, creative and fun.
🤖 The reason I started this camp is to raise money for the CK Cyber Pack, Chatham’s only FIRST Robotics team that competes in various competitions across Ontario. 100% of the proceeds support future engineers, programmers, and inventors in Chatham-Kent. If you are familiar with Codersblock, a coding camp from last summer, Ethan and I were counselors there as well.
💡 At BrickBots, your child will learn to code, compete, and challenge themselves by building real robots using LEGO Spike Prime kits. Our drop off time is between 8:30 and 9:00am, and pick up is between 3:00 and 4:00pm. Each day your child will learn the fundamentals of programming and technical design, and participate in group activities to test these skills. This leaves plenty of time for outdoor breaks outside our location at Sprucedale Church in Chatham (493 Victoria Ave).
🥪 Campers should bring a packed lunch, healthy snacks, and a refillable water bottle, just like they would for a regular school day. They are also asked to bring a laptop (Windows, Chromebook, or Mac) with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge installed to run the LEGO coding software. If that’s not possible, don’t worry, we have extra Chromebooks available on-site.
✍️ We are now accepting registrations for our July 28 - August 8 session. To encourage sign ups, we are running a special promotion: $100 off of the regular price. The price is $400 for the full 2 week session with no additional taxes or fees, so $200 a week. Based on demand, we are considering adding one more session from August 11-22.
