π§ June is Brain Injury Awareness Month π§
June marks the beginning of Brain Injury Awareness Month, a time to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and recognize the millions of people whose lives have been impacted by brain injury.
Brain injuries can happen to anyone, at any age, and may result from a variety of causes, including:
β’ Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) from falls, motor vehicle collisions, sports injuries, assaults, or workplace accidents
β’ Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) resulting from stroke, aneurysm, brain tumor, infection, oxygen deprivation, or other medical conditions
Many effects of brain injury are invisible and can impact memory, concentration, fatigue, communication, emotions, mobility, and daily living. Every brain injury is unique, and every recovery journey looks different.
This month, we join the efforts of the Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA) in raising awareness and promoting understanding of brain injury across our communities. To show our support, we have changed our cover photo to the virtual Brain Injury Awareness Month flag.
You can help promote awareness by:
π Learning about brain injury and its effects
π Challenging misconceptions and stigma
π Sharing information and resources
π Supporting survivors, caregivers, and families
π Participating in awareness initiatives throughout the month
Together, we can build a more inclusive and supportive community for individuals living with brain injury.
