On Saturday 22nd October 2022, we went to Waltron Trailers in Ridgetown for a tour of the trailer factory.
They showed us around and told us they build a lot of trailers for yachts and rockets.

We learnt about the parts of a trailer called the gooseneck (front) the back is called the rear bridge.
The parts to make the front, middle and back are put together and then welded into beams which are then made into sections of the trailer.
The front, middle and back are put together separately and then are welded to create a complete trailer.

One of the workers had a “space mouse” hooked up to their computer; the space mouse is basically a highly sensitive joystick from a game controller, It is so sensitive that the slightest touch will send the cursor flying off the screen.

They get many contracts mostly from the US, but contracts also came from the military; unfortunately, he was not able to tell us about them as they are [REDACTED]! (i.e top secret)!

Waltron an industry leading trailer company.

What a fun Saturday morning for the 4H LEGO engineering club!

On the 25th of October, 2022, the 4H LEGO Engineering Club went to Haggerty Creek LTD to view some robotics.
The Club first saw the big robots outside which had sensors and cameras to detect if there was another robot or a person in front of it.
After viewing the big robots, we then went inside and saw the smaller robots.
The smaller robots names are, OZ Naïo(nayo) and the farmdroid.
OZ moved at a “whopping” 1.8kph and had 5 hours battery life.
Naïo looks a lot like a battlebot (if you know what I mean) and had 10 hours of battery life.
Farmdroid puts seeds in the ground and has solar panels on top and is able to run for 20 hours a day!
Then there is the drone… Ryan (the tour guide) said he was too scared to fly it! The drone “theoretically” flys very fast. The drone is controlled by a tablet running a Windows (not sure which OS) operating system and could only fly for 20 minutes when carrying its “amazingly strong” max load of… wait for it… 50kg!
The drone when not carrying something that is as heavy as a very small teenager could fly for 50 minutes.
There was another robot… it was not there at the time but it was rumored that it had robotic hands and pulled weeds out of the ground…(My mother wants one, well don’t we all?)!

We have been talking a lot about robots; I almost forgot about the other cool stuff at the farm!
This farm had several 80ft tall silos and had trucks carrying 60,000kg of corn! (Now THATs a lot of corn! if you get the Phil Swift flex tape joke!)
The trucks carrying 60,000kg were almost at the road limit!
To make sure they were under the limit, they had to go on a GIANT scale!

Oh and by the way, the corn silos were fully automated with an automatic heater/cooler and sorting system! The corn in the silos could last 1 year! (that’s a long time!)

The other robots (no name mentioned) were off in other parts of the world!
Some of the robots were built in France and Germany!

Oh and one last thing… The drone (we think) could fly high above 400ft.
If any flying object is over 400ft, they need to notify air traffic control! No seriously… If you don’t notify them, you can get a HUGE fine!

This tour was very fun! Thank you, Haggerty Creek!

That concludes this press report!

The meeting for Saturday October 15th, 2022 was held at St.Paul’s Catholic Church in Thamesville from 9:30am to 11:30am.
The meeting was opened by President Alex.
At today’s meeting we built new lego sets while modifying our older sets. There was a wide variety of new lego projects that included Newton’s law, physics and bridges. A few of us carried on doing coding on the initial sets we had started a couple of weeks ago.

We ended today with Liz telling us about next weeks meeting which is being held at a tractor trailer making place in Ridgetown.
President Alex then motioned for the meeting to close.
