Canada - we want solidarity with Cuba.
🚨 MPs, peers and trade union leaders gathered outside Parliament today to send a clear message:
NO TRUMP WAR ON CUBA
As the Trump administration escalates economic warfare against Cuba and threatens the island’s sovereignty, parliamentarians from across the political spectrum joined the Cuba Solidarity Campaign to call on the UK Government to oppose US aggression and defend Cuba’s right to self-determination.
📢 117 MPs have now signed EDM 2739 opposing Trump’s new sanctions on Cuba.
Speaking at the event:
✊ Jeremy Corbyn MP condemned the sanctions as “disgusting and disgraceful” and demanded an end to measures that deny Cuba access to fuel and medicines.
✊ Clive Lewis MP warned of the dangers of US intervention, drawing on the Caribbean’s experience of foreign aggression.
✊ Ian Byrne MP told the Cuban people: “There are many MPs in Parliament who fully support your efforts and have got your backs.”
✊ Richard Burgon MP said: “No to Trump’s war on Cuba, and yes to the right of the Cuban people to determine their own future.”
The Cuban people are facing severe shortages of food, fuel and medicines as a result of the US blockade and Trump’s latest sanctions. Now more than ever, international solidarity matters.
