It is with profound sadness that CUPE PEI acknowledges the passing of Robert Albert Geiss.

In his career as a bus driver and President of Local 1145, Robert was a steadfast advocate for his fellow bus drivers and the children whom he drove that brought him immense joy every day. Beyond his advocacy for bus drivers, he also worked closely with our 3 other education locals and his leadership will be greatly missed throughout the education sector.

Robert had a kind soul, often found showing pictures of his fur-baby Peanut and bringing a laugh to anyone around him. He volunteered to drive CUPE PEI’s floats in the Pride parade and was always there to lend a hand. He will forever be remembered as a tireless leader, a proud CUPE member, and an incredible friend to us all.

Our deepest sympathies go out to his family including his wife Marjorie, step-son Alan, and fur-baby Peanut, as well as the members of Local 1145. Donations in Robert’s memory can be made to the PEI Humane Society.

CUPE PEI Convention – Day 2

Another powerful day filled with inspiring speeches and meaningful moments of solidarity.

Elections took place on this last day of our convention. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who put their name forward, and congratulations to the newly elected members of the CUPE PEI board and committees. Your willingness to step up is what keeps our union strong and moving forward.

We’re proud to share that CUPE PEI locals donated an incredible amount, matched by CUPE National, for a total of over $35,000 to Easter Seals Canada, the country’s largest local provider of programs, services, and leadership for the disability community. Thank you to every local for your generosity.

As we close the convention, we honour the memory of CUPE staff Denis Brun. Let us carry forward the kindness and generosity he embodied every single day.

Solidarity all and see you next year.

Day 1 of the CUPE PEI Convention in Charlottetown!

Welcome to all delegates.

We kicked things off with powerful speeches from the CUPE National President Mark Hancock, National Secretary‑Treasurer Candace Rennick, and our own CUPE PEI President Ashley Clark.

Today two resolutions were passed to help strengthen protections against violence in the workplace, capped off with an impactful panel of Local Presidents taking delegates through the realities of workplace violence and understaffing as health and safety concerns.

A powerful start to what’s shaping up to be an incredible convention!

Whether you're attending the convention or not, you can show your support for a cause close to CUPE’s heart. Join us in backing our Child Care Now campaign. Click the link below to learn more:
