𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥 𝐏𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 ⁣

This week, Councillor Tweel tried to ensure that residents — and all of council — could review the independent Fire Underwriters Survey report, in totality, that evaluates our community’s fire protection and helps determine insurance risk.⁣

We appreciate his effort to bring this into the open and we strongly support the principle behind it:⁣
⁣
𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐬𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐛𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜.⁣
⁣
Across Canada, municipalities release this information so families and businesses can understand how well their fire protection system is keeping pace with community growth.⁣
⁣
Right now, the only information shared has been behind closed doors. That approach raises fair questions about when the full report will be available and why the entire independent assessment has not been presented openly.⁣
⁣
This report was paid for by Charlottetown, about Charlottetown — it should not be controlled or withheld by the Fire Chief. It belongs to the public.⁣
⁣
We believe Charlottetown residents deserve:⁣
⁣
1️⃣ The complete Fire Underwriters Survey report⁣
2️⃣ A clear timeline for its public release⁣
3️⃣ An honest conversation about what improvements are needed to protect our growing city⁣
⁣
We are confident that, with informed decisions and transparency, Charlottetown can catch up to other comparable cities and work toward providing its citizens the service they deserve.⁣
⁣
We encourage all community members to stay engaged and make your voice heard. Charlottetown deserves safety, accountability, and openness.⁣
⁣
Our city is growing — our readiness must grow with it. ⁣
