In Praise of the Alberton Exhibition:
I’ve noticed a number of online comments about the Alberton Exhibition held this weekend that are both unfair and unnecessarily cruel. And honestly, it’s disappointing.
The Alberton Exhibition — like every fair, festival and exhibition on PEI — exists because volunteers give up their evenings, their weekends, and often their sleep to make sure Island families have something fun to enjoy each summer. These folks aren’t paid, they aren’t rewarded, and they certainly aren’t doing it for applause. They do it because they care about their community and are determined to see their exhibition thrive.
It is amazing how easy it is to criticize the work of volunteers when you’re sitting at home behind a keyboard, and how much harder it is to show up, roll up your sleeves, and help build something for your community.
These volunteers deserve gratitude, not disrespect. They deserve encouragement, not insults. And they certainly deserve better than being mocked by people who haven’t lifted a finger to help.
So, before anyone feels the urge to tear down the people who actually keep these traditions alive, maybe take a moment to ask yourself what you’ve contributed. If the answer is “nothing,” then perhaps a little respect — or silence — would go a long way. Criticism is easy. Community-building is not.
If you enjoy the Exhibition, thank a volunteer. If you want it to grow, become a volunteer. If you have ideas, bring them forward. But if your only contribution is negativity, please understand that it does nothing to help the community you claim to care about.

All welcome theme this year is "Celebrate Women in Agriculture "
