Have you written something (any style, in any genre) that you'd like to read in front of a wonderfully supportive group of fellow writers and fans of writing? Each and every 4th Thursday of the month writers of all levels and genres come together at The Gallery Coffee House & Bistro for an evening like no other. Its welcoming, its supportive, and a perfect space to share your writing.

After months of developing their original film and TV ideas through the PEI Writers’ Guild’s PAGE TO PITCH screenwriting development program, 6 Island writers will now take the stage in the program’s finale event at City Cinema! In front of a live audience and a panel of guest judges, they now have the chance to pitch their projects for a share of $15,000 in project development funding, with the winner(s) announced at the end of the event!

Our organization is feeling pretty grateful today for many members of our PEI writing community and ongoing contributors to our mission of supporting Island writers.

As our annual Battle Tales friendly writing contest has recently come to a close, we'd like to shine an extra special spotlight on one such contributor, our 2026 Battle Tales Guest Judge J.M. PLATTS-FANNING!

J.M. Platts-Fanning is an award-winning poet, prose writer, and playwright from Prince Edward Island, whose work has earned numerous accolades. Winner of multiple PEI Writers’ Guild Island Literary Awards, her work appears in The Dalhousie Review, White Wall Review, and other journals and anthologies. Her restless, empathetic voice explores memory, nature, and belonging. Her forthcoming book, Dandelion Rebellion, will be released in June 2026 by Pownal Street Press. A forest steward and volunteer with PEI Ground Search and Rescue, she lives by the motto: “That Others May Live.”

These amazing writers continually give back and support the growth of writing in Prince Edward Island, so please consider returning the favour by purchasing their new pieces of work and attending one of their events!

Our annual and cherished friendly writing contest has officially come to a close, and Battle Tales Eleven proved to be one of our strongest showings yet!

We are thrilled to announce that our Battle Tales Eleven CHAMPION is Elsie Hovey, with her story Eat This Miracle.

Our guest judge (and 2025 Battle Tales Champion) Jennifer Platts-Fanning had this to say about the winning story:

Grief is hunger for the one you’ve loved and lost. Grief is debt, devotion, the painful privilege of having loved, all at once. Eat This Miracle lays bare the terrifying beauty of love and death: gut-wrenching, raw, honest, striking, original, this story gives language to unquenchable loss. From the very first lines, the point of view grips you. You care immediately, you care hungrily, you understand this is what grief is, written with clarity by one who has loved, as all long to love, and one who’s endured loss, as all who love long to avoid, or at the very least, delay. Grief is the cost of love. It’s the debt of having known such love, and to know it, and have it reflected back in such precise, aching, poetic, and truthful language as expressed in this short story is a gift. So, I thank you, author of Eat this Miracle, for this truly remarkable piece. It will stay with me.

From three unexpected prompts — pouring out of green jars, vaguely askew teeth, and the calculus of miracles — five remarkable stories were crafted that moved, surprised, and stayed with us.

PEI WRITING AWARDS SURVEY

As one part of ongoing consultation with PEI's diverse writing communities in support of a revitalized awards program for Island writers, the PEI Writers Guild has launched an online survey to gather feedback.

This short survey is open to Island writers and creatives at all levels of experience. Even if you’ve never participated in a PEIWG event or submitted to the Island Literary Awards, these are your awards and we want to hear from you!

The survey will help shape the future direction of the awards program and celebration and will be open until June 15. Complete the survey located on the www.peiwritersguild.com home page!
