Today was graduation day at Colonel Gray High School, and our Treasurer and STRIVE Committee member Emma Fugate was there to present the STRIVE Scholarships and Llew Robinson/Brien Willoughby Rotary Youth Parliament Leadership Scholarship to very deserving students. Our Programs for Young Leaders give us such joy when we see young people succeed and thrive!

The STRIVE Scholarships were presented to: Omar Al Rahal,
Carolyn Barker, Sophia Butler, Nadia Carr, Lillie Chandler, Anna Garrity, Joseph Jabbour, ,Arabella Slote, Ariel Wu, and Scarlett Xu.

The Llew Robinson/Brien Willoughby Rotary Youth Parliament Leadership Scholarship was presented to Johanna Forbes.

Congratulations everyone, you are truly inspiring. Thank you to the STRIVE and Rotary Youth Parliament Committee members for their dedication to these programs, and to Rotary Radio Bingo for helping to provide these programs and scholarships.

Three years ago, Vivian Wang arrived in Charlottetown from Taiwan as a Rotary Youth Exchange student. That same year Connor MacEwen left Charlottetown to spend a year in Switzerland. Vivian stayed with our incoming President Richard and Heather MacEwen. Today, in Yulin, Taiwan, the MacEwens and the Wangs met for tea after the Rotary International Convention in Taipei. Joining them were Oliver MacEwen, currently on exchange in Italy, Lisa Chauvet who was our Exhcange Student from France last year, and Clara DaCosta, our current Exchange Student from Brazil. Youth Exchange has officially been part of Rotary since 1975 and truly makes Rotary international. Rotary District 7815

Yesterday marked our Rotary Youth Exchange student Clara DaCosta's final meeting with us before she heads off to the Rotary International Convention this week and then back home to Brazil in early July. At the meeting she presented our RYE Chair Peter MacDougald with her Club banner. Clara, we hope that you enjoyed being with us as much we enjoyed having you with us, and we wish you all the best. Today was one of our favourite days of the Rotary Year -the presentation of the STRIVE Scholarships to deserving students from Colonel Gray and Charlottetown Rural High Schools. STRIVE Committee Chair Rotarian Pat Hughes presided over the presentation of 20 STRIVE Scholarships.
One of Rotary’s most important commitments is supporting young people as they pursue their goals and develop their potential. For a number of years, Rotary volunteers have been going to Colonel Gray High School to run the STRIVE Program– Students Taking a Renewed Interest in the Value of Education, and this year we were pleased to add Charlottetown Rural as a participating school.
The STRIVE Program is not solely about academic achievement. It celebrates students who have worked hard to overcome challenges, improved their performance, shown leadership, and demonstrated a positive attitude toward learning and their future. These qualities reflect the values that Rotary seeks to encourage in our communities.
Today we recognized 10 students from each school who have demonstrated determination, perseverance, personal growth, and a commitment to their education with a $1500 bursary to the post-secondary institution of their choice. We applaud their dedication and effort and wish them every success going forward.
