It’s National Accessibility Week. Did you know you can get a little closer to the water than you think with the use of mobility mats?

Mobility mats are special mat surfaces at the base of the beach entrance ramp, which stretch over the soft sand and give access to the hard-packed wet sand along the water’s edge. This creates an easy path of access for wheels of all kinds.

During peak season, mobility mats can be found at Brackley, Cavendish Main and Stanhope Main beaches.

Let’s keep moving forward together toward a more accessible Canada.

Last June, Canadians showed up to move.đź’Ş

1,500+ organizations. 10,000+ events. 846,000 participants. 672 communities across every province and territory.

That's the scale of the ParticipACTION Community Challenge presented by Novo Nordisk - a national physical activity initiative proving that when communities come together, they move mountains (or at least, a lot of people).

So what can we do together in 2026? đź’ś

Recreation is often treated as something optional, especially when communities, municipalities, or organizations are under pressure.

When budgets tighten or priorities shift, recreation is often one of the first areas to be reduced or removed. But the reality is that it plays a much deeper role in everyday life.

Recreation supports physical activity, mental health, social inclusion, active living, and long-term community development. It helps reduce isolation, strengthens connection, and contributes to overall community well-being.

When access to recreation is limited, the impacts are real:
Lower participation in physical activity
Increased social isolation
Reduced access to inclusive programs and spaces
Long-term effects on health and well-being

Recreation is not a luxury. It is a necessity.
------------

Disc golf is a fantastic way to enjoy the outdoors and get moving. PEI has many top ranked courses to try out this fun activity. It's great for all ages and skill levels!

The 2026 UDisc Course Rankings are out! Across the country, 949 different courses were ranked and of those 949, UDisc has compiled the Top 100 in Canada. And right here in Prince Edward Island, we are lucky enough to have FIVE of the top 100 courses in the country. Including the #1 ranked Hillcrest Farm Disc Golf! Congratulations to #11 Huck it middleton disc golf, #38 Glenaladale Disc Golf, #57 Belfast Disc Golf, and #81 Kings Pine Disc Golf Course. The honours are well deserved and recognize the continued efforts of these courses (and every course on PEI for that matter), at raising the standard for what a top level disc golf course looks like. If you didn't know it already, PEI is a true disc golf destination and these rankings just help further cement it. Whether it is on the DGPEI Tour or on your own personal adventure, we highly encourage you to check out these courses during one of your next rounds and see what they are all about!
