Andrews Senior Care is proud to announce that our homes in both Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick are now Accredited with Exemplary Standing through Accreditation Canada. The designation was changed recently from our initial Accreditation with Commendation.

This designation makes Andrews the only privately-owned long-term care facilities on P.E.I. that are part of both the Provincial Government LTC Inspection Program and Accreditation Canada’s Qmentum Program. Accreditation Canada standards are considered the benchmark for health services in Canada. Accredited with Exemplary Standing is the highest level of accreditation certification and means Andrews not only met, but exceeded, the national standards outlined by Accreditation Canada.

Residents at Andrews of Charlottetown spent an afternoon exploring Old Home Week at the Eastlink Centre. They took in a horse show, dog show, checked out the animals and the amazing quilts on display. They even had time for some ice cream!

“It’s a privilege.”

That’s how Dot McIver described reconnecting with her former school-mate Olga Callbeck after decades apart.
The two went to school together at St. Joseph’s Convent, commonly referred to as the Miscouche Convent, in the late 1940's and early 1950's.

They both went their separate ways after graduating. Olga went to college in Nova Scotia, spent time in Buffalo, western Canada, and eventually moved back to P.E.I. in 1955. Dot took a course from the convent after high school and began working at Corney Brothers’ car dealership. She worked there for five years before meeting her husband and relocating to Ontario where she remained until 2004.

They reunited in May when Olga moved into Andrews of Summerside just a few doors down from Dot.
It was Dot who first made the connection.

“She recognized me first,” said Olga. “Then when she said she went to school with me and her name was Dot, I said ‘’not Dot Sonier?’”

The two laugh when the story is told, each filling in details for the other.

They later realized they both still had the same photo from high school and have bonded over shared memories and talking about their families.

“It’s just wonderful,” said Olga. “We’ve become very good friends in here.”

Residents at Andrews of Summerside recently took part in mindful breathing exercises in the courtyard.

The session was led by activity director Komal and activity assistant Sukhjeet Kaur.

The session lasts about half an hour and is a great way to get outside and get some Vitamin D.

At Andrews of Stratford, the e-bike is a popular way for residents to get out and enjoy the weather.

Likewise, the patio is a favourite hang-out for residents to read, soak up some sunshine or play games. Staff sometimes join in the fun!

They may have had the Gold Cup Girls, but we had the Golden Girls!

Andrews Senior Care had a blast in the Gold Cup Parade today.

We were fortunate enough to have a few residents with us to celebrate the day.
