One of the best ways to reduce waste is to fix items that we already own, instead of buying a replacement.
The Fix-It-Fair, presented by City of Charlottetown, PE, will have skilled "fixers" to help with items such as:

Due to Thanksgiving, there will be no curbside collection on Monday, October 12th.
If your collection would typically take place on Monday, it will now take place on the alternate day of Saturday, October 17th.
All IWMC offices (including Waste Watch Drop-Off Centers) will be closed on Monday, October 12th.

Change in Traffic Flow – Saturday Mornings
Please note that beginning Saturday, Oct. 3, 2026, traffic flow on Superior Crescent will change every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. until further notice to help manage traffic at the Island Waste Management Corporation (IWMC) Drop-Off Center (GFL) in Charlottetown.
During these hours, customers accessing the Charlottetown IWMC Drop-Off Center will be directed to enter Superior Crescent through the southern entrance, across from Camburhill Court.
Traffic accessing the Charlottetown IWMC Drop-Off Center will not be permitted to enter Superior Crescent from the entrance nearest MacAleer Drive. All other businesses on Superior Crescent will remain accessible to the public.
Traffic control personnel will be on site to assist drivers and help maintain a safe and efficient flow of traffic.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation.

REMINDER: Suspension on excess yard and garden debris will begin Monday, October 5th.
In preparation for Fall Cleanup, a collection suspension for excess yard and garden debris will begin on October 5th. Yard and garden material such as leaves, branches, twigs, weeds and other plant debris will be collected during Fall Cleanup.
The Fall Cleanup Dates are:
🍂 Yard Debris: (Week of) Monday, November 2
🍂 Yard Debris: (Week of) Monday, November 16
🍂 Waste: Place items next to your waste cart on your normal collection day during November.
Why is there is a suspension? The suspension is in place due to the volume of material placed curbside during early fall when homeowners clean properties after the growing season.

In observation of Truth and Reconciliation Day, there will be no curbside collection on Wednesday, September 30th.

If your collection would typically take place on Wednesday, it will now take place on the alternate day of Saturday, October 3.

Bags in the waste cart MUST be clear + transparent, else they will be rejected.
Why?

1) If collection drivers cannot identify what is inside the bag, they can not verify that garbage is sorted properly.

2) There are many sanitation workers who handle garbage after it is placed curbside. If they cannot see what is in the bag, they could be unaware of potential hazards and sharps that may hurt them during their work day.
Collection guidelines are not just about proper sorting and keeping items out of the landfill. Guidelines also ensure a safe work environment for all of the people who handle Island-made waste.
