One of the most common sorting mistakes? Corrugated VS Non-Corrugated Cardboard.
If it is corrugated (thick cardboard, typically three layers) - it goes into Blue Bag #1. This cardboard would commonly be found in:
📦 Moving Boxes
📦 Shipping Boxes
If it is non-corrugated (thin, easily-ripped cardboard) - you can just throw it in your green cart, because it is compost. An example of this type of cardboard would be:
📦Kleenex Boxes (don’t forget to remove the plastic from the middle!)
📦 Cracker Boxes
PRO TIP: When you rip a piece of non-corrugated boxboard that you suspect is compost - do you see a layer of plastic? If so, this means it is *not* compostable in PEI.

Yesterday was our annual Adopt-A-Highway Cleanup! ☀️
Since 2009, our team has come together to tidy up a five kilometre stretch of highway in Wellington, near the East Prince Waste Management Facility.
A great day spent with members of the IWMC team, while collecting 102 bags of mixed waste (a total weight of 410 kgs!).
Thank-you to our team members who worked hard to clean this stretch of road.
Remember: all garbage in PEI has a place to go.

Happy Earth Week 🌍
Over 20 years ago, the Island committed to sorting our garbage and since - we have collectively saved items from landfills, repurposed thrown out items and contributed to a healthier future for earth.
Sorting your garbage is one small action that over time makes a BIG impact. We are proud of the work we do at IWMC, and we are proud to serve our island (and our earth).
