The 2026 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Canadian poet and essayist Anne Carson. The Swedish Academy honored her "for her bold and inventive oeuvre that, in playful dialogue with the classical tradition, has created new forms for contemporary literature." Her win has once again drawn global media attention to Anne Carson, her work, and Canadian literature as a whole. It is also a source of pride for Canadians!
Anne Carson's writing often draws on ancient Greek and Roman literature, yet reconstructs it in a strikingly modern way, blurring the boundaries between poetry, essay, criticism, and translation.
· Notable Works: Eros the Bittersweet, the verse novel Autobiography of Red, and Glass, Irony and God, among others.
· Significance of the Award: She is the second Canadian writer in history to receive the prize, and the 19th woman to win it.
