Addiction doesn’t discriminate. It can affect people of any age, background, income or circumstance—and sometimes, you’d never know someone is struggling.

A friend. A neighbour. A coworker. A family member. Someone you pass every day.

Behind closed doors, someone in your community could be silently struggling with substance use, and carrying more than anyone realizes.

National Overdose Awareness Day is an opportunity to remember those we’ve lost, reduce stigma, and remind people that support is available.

If you or someone you know needs help finding local resources, 211 PEI is here to help.

"I'm worried about my mother." That's how the call started.

We hear from people every day who are looking for support for a loved one. This son was concerned about his mom. She was living independently and wanted to stay that way. But over time, he noticed some changes. She wasn't getting out as much as she used to. Activities she once enjoyed had become less frequent, and many of her days were spent alone.

He could hear it in their conversations: the loneliness, the isolation, the sense that her world was gradually becoming smaller. He wanted to help but wasn't sure what resources were available or where to begin.

Sometimes, one conversation can open the door to resources you didn't know existed. If you're concerned about an older loved one who may be feeling lonely or isolated, 211 PEI can help connect you with programs, services, and supports across Prince Edward Island.
