🧡 Message on National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡
Each year on September 30, we commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a time for remembrance, learning, reflection, and shared responsibility. We honour the survivors of the residential school system, which was designed to assimilate Indigenous Peoples across Canada. We remember the children who never made it home, and we stand with their families and communities as they continue their healing journeys.
Survivors across Iiyiyiu Aschii and beyond have shared memories of a tragic system that separated Indigenous children from their families, their land, their culture, their language, and their identity. Despite this painful legacy and the intergenerational
trauma that has affected Iiyiyuuch for generations, we take pride in the strength, courage, and resilience of residential school survivors. Their stories and experiences continue to remind us of the importance of truth, remembrance, and reconciliation.
We remain guided by hope as our Nation continues its journey of healing. We also remain united in purpose as we support one another and continue to pass on the precious knowledge of our culture, traditions, and language to future generations.
May this day be an opportunity for all of us to learn, reflect, share, and help educate the next generation by taking part in community events and activities organized to commemorate this important day.
