The Chateauguay Civitan is a service organization made up of men and women from various backgrounds who enjoy helping others and also like the social aspects provided. Services are in the form of donations and hands-on projects. Donations have been made to youth sports, camps for underprivileged, bursaries for French and English High Schools as well as help to the Elementary Schools for breakfasts
. Several years ago at the Anna Laberge Hospital, our local hospital, a Dental Clinic was established and materials were purchased by Civitan for speech therapy for youngsters as well as funds allocated for the purchase of walkers. Our largest form of support goes to CLSC to help mothers have healthy babies by providing funds for milk. Money to support various causes comes from our weekly bingo, monthly cribbage, semi-annual brunches and the selling of Claxton fruit cakes, humbugs and shortbreads. Our Candy Box Project is another means of fund-raising. Our hands-on projects are, Blood Donor Clinics, Influenza Clinics, helping with babysitting duties at the CLSC, breakfast for needy mothers and their babies. Included in other community support is the Chateauguay Canadian Legion’s Remembrance Parade, Chateauguay Food Bank, Relay for Life walk-a-Thons and joining in the Chateauguay and Montreal St. Patrick’s Parade. Several of these projects are held at our Civitan Hall. If you are visiting family or friends in the Chateauguay area or are just traveling through, we invite you to please drop in and say hello. If you are interested in helping others and sharing in the fellowship of other like minded individuals, please consider becoming part of our organization. Mission Statement
The worldwide mission of Civitan International is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization of clubs dedicated to serving individual and community needs, with an emphasis on helping people with developmental disabilities. The Civitan Creed
I AM CIVITAN: as old as life, as young as the rainbow, as endless as time. MY HANDS do the work of the world and reach out in service to others. MY EARS hear the cry of children and the call throughout the world for peace, guidance, progress, and unity. MY EYES search for others to join in the fellowship and service of Civitan. MY MOUTH utters the call to daily duty and speaks prayers in every tongue. MY MIND teaches me respect for law and the flag of my country. MY HEART beats for every friend, bleeds for every injury to humanity, and throbs with joy at every triumph of truth. MY SOUL knows no fear but its own unworthiness. MY HOPE is for a better world through Civitan. MY MOTTO: builders of good citizenship. MY BELIEF: do unto others as you would have them do unto you. MY PLEDGE: to practice the Golden Rule and to build upon it a better and nobler citizenship. Chateauguay Civitan Club is proud to be part of the Canada True North District - Civitan International Non-Profit Organization
