FilCan NL proudly congratulates the Class of 2026. Today, we celebrate all your achievements — and give a special shout‑out to our very own Valedictorian, Max Baco.
Born and raised in Moalboal, Cebu, Max moved to Newfoundland & Labrador at 19 to reunite with her mom and build a new future. She completed the Journalism program at the College of the North Atlantic and now works as a reporter with CBC in St. John’s.
We are so proud of you, Max, and of every graduate who continues to uplift our Filipino‑Canadian community.

The Filipino-Canadian Organization had an incredible time celebrating the 128th Philippine Independence Day at the St. John's City Hall.

We were honored to have the Ambassador of the Philppines in Canada, His Excellency Ambassador Jose Victor Chan-Gonzaga as our special guest, who delivered an insightful and inspiring speech to the community.

Also in attendance were St. John’s City Councillors—Deputy Mayor Ron Ellsworth, along with Jill Bruce, Nikita Ryall, and Tom Davis—who warmly engaged with everyone throughout the celebration.

Leaders from various Filipino and Filipino-Canadian organizations across Newfoundland & Labrador also came together to mark this historic occasion, including leaders from:

· MUN Filipino Student Association
· Filipino-Canadian Family of Burin Peninsula
· Filipino-Canadian Community of Western NL
· Filipino Association of NL
· FilCan Tax Volunteers

Filipino Heritage Month
June is Filipino Heritage Month. Mayor Brenton welcomed Ria Aguilario, Rio Flynn and Krishna Aromin to the Council Chambers last night for the signing of a proclamation declaring the month of June as Filipino Heritage Month in Marystown. Mayor Brenton took a moment to thank the Filipino community for their involvement in the community.
Marystown's Filipino community is very active and integrated into the community. They have participated in many of the Town's events including, but not limited to, serving as volunteers on our Tourism & Special Events Committee, participating in all of our community clean-ups and serving on the Fire Department.
