Kawther Hersi Musa is a Clinical Nutritionist and public health researcher with over 12 years of experience in healthcare, advocacy, and community development. As a Columbus Community Relations Commissioner, she plays a vital role in connecting underserved populations—especially immigrant and refugee communities—with critical health and social services.
Kawther is the founder of the Somali National Institute of Public Health, an organization dedicated to advancing equity, wellness, and culturally responsive care in Somalia. Her leadership has helped thousands of first-generation families gain access to housing, healthcare, education, and civic resources.
She actively promotes civic engagement, voter education, and community organizing among new Americans. Through her outreach, she has empowered countless families to participate in local democracy and public life.
Internationally, Kawther has represented the Somali diaspora at global conferences in Doha, Istanbul, and beyond—meeting with world leaders, ministers, and humanitarian organizations to advocate for transnational solutions in health, migration, and policy reform.
Her research on trauma-informed care, nutrition, and refugee health has been featured in academic settings and community forums. Kawther is also a speaker, mentor, and coalition-builder, recognized for her work by local governments, public health agencies, and diaspora networks
