π₯ Spring Burning Period for Nelson Residents π₯
A yard debris burning period will be in effect starting on March 30th.
Clearing away surface fuels like dry sticks, twigs, and brush helps protect homes and communities from the risk of wildfires.
A permit must be obtained prior to burning from the Nelson Fire Hall at 919 Ward St. Proof of current fire insurance plus a $10 fee will be required.
What can be burnt? Dry sticks, branches, twigs, brush, and organic woody debris from your yard cleanup.
What is not permitted? Accelerants, leaves, grass, lumber, or construction materials are not allowed.
When is the burning period? March 30th to May 12th from 8:00 Am to 6:00pm daily, however burning is contingent on appropriate venting each day. Details on how to check venting will be provided when you pick up your permit.
Are there alternatives to burning? Yes. Drop off yard waste at the Grohman Narrows Transfer Station. Only $6 per load up to 2.5 cubic meters. Alternatively, for the month of May, thanks to the RDCK you may drop off up to one truckload of garden waste per day. Some restrictions apply, visit the RDCK website for details.
