Nelson Employer Highlight – To Island
In this photo, Dawn is busy shredding. Dawn has worked at Inland to Island for the past 5 years and takes a lot of pride in her job. Having meaningful work has helped develop skills, supported her independence and self-determination. She sure is a valued member of the team. We're also very grateful for Kathy and the workplace culture she has created at Inland To Island . Kathy employs six individuals supported by KSCL Bigby Place and has built a very welcoming inclusive environment where folks feel appreciated for the work they do. The employees always look forward to the staff appreciation events and Christmas parties, Kathy you know how to care for your team! Inclusive employment doesn't happen by accident; it happens because employers like Kathy see people's strengths and value what they bring. Thank you, Kathy and the Inland to Island team.

National Accessibility Week
Accessibility is about more than ramps and automatic doors. It means creating communities where everyone can access information, services, opportunities, and experiences with dignity and independence.
During National Accessibility Week, we recognize the importance of identifying and removing barriers that individuals with disabilities may face in their daily lives. These barriers can be physical, digital, communication-related, systemic, or attitudinal.
When we prioritize accessibility, we create stronger, more inclusive communities where everyone can participate, contribute, and thrive.
This week, we encourage everyone to learn more about accessibility, listen to the experiences of people with disabilities, and consider how we can all help build a more inclusive future.
💙 Together, accessibility benefits everyone.

Employee of the Month

This Employee of the Month recognition celebrates someone with a generous nature and willingness to pitch in—no matter what the task.
Whether helping with expected duties or stepping forward when something extra is needed, this person consistently shows kindness, flexibility, and a strong team spirit.
Over the past year, this individual has helped take great care of our new facility, Eagle Estates, while also mentoring brand-new workers with patience and kindness. Consistently this individual, leads by example and brings positivity to the people around them.
We have also admired their willingness to explore entrepreneurship. Being self-employed takes courage, resilience, and a willingness to keep learning. This Employee of the month has challenged themselves to learn new ideas, business models, and skills, while continuing to grow their confidence along the way.
And of course, we could not end without mentioning this individual’s signature goodbye: “Until next time, may you be happy, healthy and safe out there.” Those words reflect the warmth, care, and sincerity that you, Colton Raddis bring everywhere you go.

Castlegar Community Services is a non-profit organization who serves the community in so many meaningful ways. We are proud to collaborate with them in supporting two individuals from the EmployMe program!
Colleen works as an office assistant, helping with a variety of tasks. You may have met her this past February as she spread the word about the Coldest Night of the Year event.
Sandrelle, works with the Better At Homes Program as a Launderer, keeping clothes clean and ready each week!
EmployMe employees are often long-term team members who bring reliability, commitment and flexible work hours ranging from 1 – 10+ per week.
Our partnership with Castlegar Community Services allows individuals the opportunity to learn new skills, gain independence, and enrich their livelihoods.
A heartfelt thank you to them for their continued support and commitment to inclusive supportive employment.
If you’re interested in learning more about the EmployMe Program, or if you have a small job opportunity available (1–5 hours per week/or month), we would love to connect with you. We’re always happy to explore flexible options that meet both individual strengths and community needs.

KSCL and Employ Me are proud to recognize Colleen Webb-Morrisseau as our April 2026 Employee of the Month!

This award celebrates effort, responsibility, and positive work habits. Over the past year we have enjoyed working alongside Colleen as she has learned new concepts and work skills, pushing herself to do new things and allowing herself to be out of her comfort zone!
