On May 5, we acknowledge the ongoing reality of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two Spirit+ people in Canada.
The day represents a challenge of the silence of tolerance and inaction for this ongoing tragedy.
Between 2000 and 2008, Indigenous women and girls accounted for around 10% of all female homicides in Canada, despite making up only 3% of the female Canadian population.
In Saskatchewan, almost 59% of missing women and girls are of Indigenous ancestry.
As a nation, we must continue raising awareness and keep the conversation going. These missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls must not be forgotten.
On May 5, join the Indigenous community and allies in wearing red and gathering to remember, honour, and give voice to women whose stories have not been heard.
