Because of our donors, patients in the Bow Valley now have greater access to advanced minimally invasive surgical care, closer to home.

Thanks to donor support and funds raised through the inaugural Sisterhood Summit in support of women’s health, the Canmore Hospital Foundation was proud to help fund a new laparoscopic surgery tower for the Canmore General Hospital OR.

This equipment enables minimally invasive surgeries with clearer imaging, greater precision, and faster recovery times for patients. It also helps expand the hospital’s laparoscopic surgery program, increase surgical volume, reduce transfers to Calgary, and decrease wait times for patients across the region.

As shared by the Canmore OR team:

“Because of you and this upgraded equipment, our team can perform procedures with greater precision, efficiency, and safety. Enhanced visualization and improved technology directly contribute to better surgical outcomes, reduced complication rates, and shorter recovery times for patients.”

They also shared:

“At last, by having two full laparoscopic towers, we can also do many more cases per week. This is huge in helping reduce the surgical wait times for the Albertan population!”

Don’t miss this opportunity! Applications are still open for the 2026–27 Bow Valley Health Care Scholarships and the Bow Valley Indigenous Health Professional Bursary.

If you’re a Bow Valley resident pursuing a future in health care, we encourage you to apply. And if someone comes to mind while reading this, a friend, family member, coworker, student, or someone in your life working toward a career in health care, we’d be so grateful if you shared this opportunity with them, too.

This year, $41,000 in scholarship funding will be awarded through the Canmore Hospital Foundation and Canmore Hospital Ladies Auxiliary to help support the next generation of health care professionals caring for our communities.

Scholarships range from $2,000–$5,000 and are made possible through the generosity of our donors and supporters, including Rogers Birdies for Kids presented by AltaLink.

We are incredibly honoured to host this special event at one of the most stunning and celebrated golf courses in the country, right here in Canmore. Year after year, Silvertip provides not only an unforgettable setting but an incredible level of partnership that helps bring this event to life.

Meet Kristin Arney, our new Development & Operations Coordinator at the Canmore Hospital Foundation.

Originally from Ontario, Kristin followed her family to the Bow Valley in 2011 and has proudly called this community home ever since. Her professional background is rooted in retail leadership and customer experience, including roles as a Visual Merchandiser with H&M and, most recently, as Store Manager at Hello Vintage, where she spent the past six years building strong community connections and leading day-to-day operations.

Kristin is excited to transition into the nonprofit sector and bring her organizational strengths, people-focused approach, and passion for community impact to the Foundation’s work supporting local health care.

Outside of the office, you’ll likely find her playing in the local women’s hockey league or exploring the mountains hiking and camping with her husband.

Last week’s donor appreciation event was one of those evenings that stays with you.

It was truly uplifting and inspiring to gather in a room filled with people who have helped shape, support, and believe in health care in our community. From donors and supporters to health care staff, volunteers, speakers, and community leaders, every person there has played a role in helping turn compassion into action at Canmore General Hospital.

Thank you for showing up, for caring so deeply, and for continuing to stand beside our hospital and the people who rely on it. There was something incredibly special about the evening. A feeling of connection, generosity, hope, and shared purpose that reminded us just how powerful community can be.

We were deeply honoured to spend the evening surrounded by people who have helped make our mission a reality and who continue to move local health care forward in meaningful ways.
