Earlier this summer, the Canmore Seniors Association gathered for its annual Fun Pancake Breakfast in celebration of Seniors’ Week. Despite the rain, the community showed up and enjoyed good food and plenty of community spirit, all while raising just under $450 for the Canmore Hospital Foundation.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Canmore Seniors Association for supporting local healthcare, and to everyone who organized, sponsored, attended, and donated. We’re so grateful to be part of a community that continues to show up for one another in such meaningful ways.

"For the physicians, the new endoscopy equipment is like driving a Lamborghini compared to a 1980s Ford."

It's a memorable quote, but it speaks to something incredibly important: access to better care, closer to home.

In our latest article, Nancy, Head Nurse of the Operating Room, shares how donor-funded investments in endoscopy and surgical equipment are transforming patient care at Canmore Hospital. From faster access to screening and early detection to expanded surgical capacity and shorter recovery times, these upgrades are making a meaningful difference for patients throughout the Bow Valley and beyond.

"Timing is everything. When you're catching and removing polyps early, you're preventing cancer."

Today, approximately 40 patients each week receive endoscopy care in Canmore, avoiding longer waits and travel to larger centres. At the same time, new surgical technology is helping more patients receive advanced procedures locally, while attracting physicians and patients from across Alberta.

There is a quiet kind of impact in healthcare that doesn’t always make headlines, but changes lives every day. It happens through early detection, reduced wait times, and the ability to access care before a condition becomes far more serious. At Canmore Hospital, that impact is being felt inside t...

"When you speak to people about the Hospital Foundation today, they've heard about it."

After eight years on the Canmore Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, Pierre Doyon has had a front-row seat to the Foundation's growth and the incredible support this community continues to show for local healthcare.

In a recent interview, Pierre reflects on what first drew him to the Foundation, the projects he's seen come to life, and the evolution of an organization that has grown from what he describes as a "well-kept secret" into a trusted community partner.

He also shares why healthcare remains one of the most meaningful causes a person can support:

"If you want to be involved in an organization that touches each and every person in the Valley, either directly or indirectly, healthcare does that."

As Pierre completes his board term, we're grateful for his leadership, generosity, and unwavering commitment to healthcare in the Bow Valley.

Judging by the thumbs up, it's safe to say the Operating Room team is happy about this one!

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the Canmore Hospital Foundation recently funded the purchase of a new laparoscopic surgery tower, one of the largest equipment investments made this year. The advanced imaging system supports minimally invasive abdominal and pelvic procedures, allowing surgeons to operate with greater precision while helping reduce recovery times, minimize complications, and improve patient outcomes.

"Because of this upgraded equipment, our team can perform procedures with greater precision, efficiency, and safety. Enhanced visualization and improved technology directly contribute to better surgical outcomes, reduced complication rates, and shorter recovery times for patients. By having two full laparoscopic towers, we can also do many more cases per week. This is huge in helping reduce surgical wait times for Albertans."

Beyond the technology itself, this investment means more patients can receive care sooner, closer to home. It's a powerful example of the impact donor support has on healthcare in our community.

Thank you to everyone who helps make investments like this possible.

When people think about healthcare, they often think about doctors, nurses, and equipment. But the spaces where care happens matter too.

In our latest article, Emergency Charge Nurse and Interim Co-Site Manager Brett Oud shares how donor support helped transform Canmore General Hospital's Emergency Department into a safer, more efficient, and more dignified place for patients and healthcare teams alike.

"You used to come in and sit on a stool right by the main door, where everyone could hear you. Now, you're in a private room, away from the noise and the crowd. That alone changes how people experience care," said Brett.

From private triage rooms and improved monitoring systems to an expanded trauma bay made possible through additional donor support, these investments are helping staff provide better care when every second matters.

"It's not just volume. It's the level of care that's required when they arrive."

As you can see, the staff at Canmore General Hospital were pretty excited about the arrival of a new portable X-ray machine.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors and support from the Canmore Hospital Ladies' Auxiliary, the Canmore Hospital Foundation recently funded the purchase of a new digital portable X-ray unit, helping bring diagnostic imaging directly to patients when and where they need it most. For patients who are critically ill, recovering from surgery, experiencing mobility challenges, or requiring urgent assessment, bedside imaging improves comfort, safety, and efficiency while supporting faster clinical decision-making.

"The portability of this advanced equipment allows imaging to be performed directly at the bedside, which is especially valuable for patients who are critically ill, in pain, or have limited mobility. The digital technology also provides improved image quality with faster processing and review, supporting more timely clinical decision-making and accurate diagnoses."

Investments like this help ensure patients receive high-quality care close to home, while giving healthcare teams the tools they need to provide the best possible care.

Thank you to everyone whose support makes purchases like this possible.

There's something special about spending time outdoors in the summer months, and for residents in long-term care, access to welcoming outdoor spaces can make a meaningful difference.
The renovated deck at Canmore General Hospital has become a valued gathering place for residents, families, and staff alike. Whether it's recreation programming, visiting with loved ones, or simply enjoying the fresh mountain air, the space provides an important connection to the outdoors and the community around them.

This project was made possible through the support of the Canmore Hospital Foundation and generous funding from BOWDA, with outdoor furnishings also provided through Foundation support.

We're grateful to everyone who helped bring this space to life and proud to see it enhancing the everyday experiences of those who call Canmore General Hospital home.

As Board terms come to a close and new chapters begin, we'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks to two individuals who have helped shape the Canmore Hospital Foundation through their leadership, dedication, and commitment to healthcare in our community.

This year, we say goodbye to Board Directors Pierre Doyon and Dr. Gert Du Plessis.

Together, they have contributed countless hours of service, thoughtful guidance, and unwavering support for the Foundation's mission. Their leadership has helped advance important initiatives, strengthen healthcare close to home, and position the Foundation to continue making a meaningful impact throughout the Bow Valley.

On behalf of our Board, staff, healthcare teams, donors, and community, thank you, Pierre and Gert, for everything you have given to the Foundation and to local healthcare.

Your contributions will leave a lasting legacy, and you will be greatly missed.
