Join us for our May General Meeting featuring an in person trunk show with Terry Rowland.

Terry Rowlandโ€™s Diverse Quilting Journey:
Over the last 40 years I have challenged myself to learn many different techniques on my quilting journey. I have also become known for my use of color and am excited to
share my diverse display of items with you. There should be something for every quilter to enjoy. Let me share my love of quilting with each and every one of you.
Terry Rowland has been an avid quilter since sewing her first quilt in 1989, a Pinwheel quilt, in which she used a rainbow of colored broadcloth. Terry is a wife and mother of 4 daughters and is currently living on a farm in Central Alberta.

Weโ€™d love to see you in person, but if you canโ€™t be in the room, there is a zoom link on our website.

Last week a large portion of the Mountain Cabin Quilters descended on the beautiful town of Kimberley, BC for an amazing quilt retreat. Thank you so much to the Trickle Creek Lodge at the for hosting us, to the North Star Quilters for bringing your quilts down to the conference centre for a show & share and to Sew Creative Chalet for putting up with our large groups that kept arriving at the shop simultaneously.

An amazing time was had by all. The room was filled with the buzz of sewing machines & laughter, evenings were filled with good food and good wine and we created a plethora of new quilts and cherished memories.

Continuing along the same thread as yesterday's post, we would like to highlight another non-female quilter.

Join us for our April General Meeting featuring Corey Ralph. In Boys on the Block III: Connecting Passion and Patchwork, Corey invites audiences into a deeply personal journey of rediscovery, resilience, and reinvention. Whether you're navigating a transition, seeking inspiration, or just love a good quilt story, this presentation is a celebration of what happens when passion meets patchwork.

We would love to see you in person so you can experience Corey's trunk show IRL, but if you can't be in the room, there is a zoom link on our website.

Society (or perhaps just a segment of society with low self-esteem) has tried to convince us that a quilter should be of a certain gender and of a certain age. But we are here to tell you that is all a bunch of nonsense. Meet Landon, one of the members of our guild. Landon possesses an X and a Y chromosome, pronouns are he/him, has most of his hair in its original colour and finds time to quilt while maintaining a full-time job. While quilting does remain more popular among women as a hobby, historically there have always been male quilters, whether it was military members creating quilts to stay warm or the men who helped legitimize art quilts. So for all the out there that do not identify as female that may be hesitant out of fear of being judged or not having anyone to relate to, you will not be the first and definitely not the last (the quilt police might judge you on others things but not your gender). And to further prove the point about how wonderful and diverse the quilting community is, we would love it if everyone could share their favourite male or non-binary quilters in the comments.

We shared a post a few weeks ago about older/hand-me-down/thrift store sewing machines. If you thought we may have been exaggerating about what our old friends are still producing, here is a professional quilter speaking on the same topic (towards the end of the video). It's a bit of a longer video but covers some important things so try to watch it to the end. Quilting is a lifelong learning journey so remember to give yourself and others grace.

There are only a few days left to visit the Art Quilt Show at Elevation Place. Flip through the carousel to see some of the remaining quilts available for sale as well as the postcards our talented quilt members make (And if you are wondering - yes, the postcards can be sent through the mail). Stop by to check out the show and maybe take home a piece of original art made right here in the Bow Valley.

The show runs daily from 11AM - 5 PM at the CAG Gallery in Elevation Place (700 Railway Ave, Canmore, AB) until March 29.
