BVRH provides seniors’ lodges, seniors' independent apartments, continuing care, family housing in Canmore, and rent supplement support for eligible households. These programs help neighbours stay housed and connected.

🔥Wildfire update – August 27, 2026

The small fire burning on Whitehorn Mountain in the Pipestone area of Banff National Park is now UNDER CONTROL.
This means that suppression efforts have ensured that the fire will not spread beyond its current perimeter.

❗There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure from this wildfire.

➡️Details
-The fire was reported yesterday, August 27, 2026.
-One initial attack crew and one helicopter are actively responding.
-Fire size estimated 0.1 hectares.
-People in the Lake Louise area may notice occasional helicopter activity as crews continue work until the fire is extinguished.

‼️This will be the last wildfire update for this fire.

Affordable independent living for seniors in the Bow Valley

Bow Valley Regional Housing (BVRH) operates Seniors Self-Contained (SSC) apartments for low- and moderate-income seniors who are functionally independent and want their own home — with the security of an affordable, managed building and neighbours nearby.

We manage 62 one-bedroom apartment-style suites in Banff and Canmore; these are self-contained rental apartments (not lodges and not care facilities). Residents live independently, pay rent geared to income, and remain part of a small community of peers.

Parks Canada fire personnel are responding to a small fire burning on Whitehorn Mountain in the Pipestone area of Banff National Park.

❗ There is currently no threat to public safety or infrastructure from this wildfire.

➡️ Details
-One initial attack crew and one helicopter are actively responding.
-Fire size estimated under 0.1 hectares.
-People in the Lake Louise area may see a thin plume of smoke and helicopter activity as crews bucket water onto the fire.
-The fire cause is currently undetermined.
-The fire is currently showing low-intensity fire behaviour.

Be prepared to stop behind buses and in school zones. 🚸 Not stopping puts kids at risk, and it can mean a $567 fine and 6 demerit points.

Younger children can be nervous and excited during the first days of school, and they might not always cross safely. Be cautious and watch for kids on the sidewalk and road.

Five Gates of Grief is the first session in our upcoming 6-week Grief Support Group, co-facilitated by Bow Valley Palliative and Covenant Health.

Led by Rabbi Rick Kline, this session explores the Five Gates of Grief, an approach developed by psychotherapist and author Francis Weller, whose work is featured in The Wild Edge of Sorrow. Together, participants will explore different layers of grief through reflection, ritual, meditation and community.
