June Social 🌏 Eastern Europe – Climbs, Caves & Castles

📅 Thursday, June 11 | 7:00 PM
📍 Presentation Room, Origin at Spring Creek

Looking for a sport climbing destination beyond the usual suspects? Join Steve Fedyna for an exploration of the crags, caves, castles, and cultures of Slovenia, Croatia, Bulgaria, and Romania.

Drawing on decades of climbing and travel experience, Steve will compare these emerging destinations with classics like Kalymnos, El Potrero Chico, and Railay Beach. Expect insights on climbing quality, travel logistics, costs, crowds, local culture, and what to do on your rest days.

Arrive early to connect with mountain friends and enjoy happy hour prices at the Mine Shaft.

Steve Fedyna is a past Chair of the ACC Rocky Mountain Section, a member of the ACC National Safety Committee, Canada’s representative on the UIAA International Safety Commission and Bolting & Rebolting Committees, and President of TABVAR. He has visited 91 countries and climbed in 28 of them—though, by his own admission, never very well in any of them.

The Spirit of Adventure: Howse Pass & Athabasca Pass

🗓 May 5
🕔 7:00pm
📍 Origin at Spring Creek

For this month’s social, we’re hitting the trails and exploring two historic mountain routes.
Join Trevor Wilson for a look at Howse Pass and Athabasca Pass — routes traveled by David Thompson and once used during the fur trade.
Expect long open valleys, big views, and an update on what these routes look like today — from the wild beauty of Howse Pass to the restored 65 km trail across Athabasca Pass.
Whether you’re into hiking, history, or just looking for your next objective, this is a chance to get inspired.

It’s been a long winter. Ready for some sun? ☀️

For our next social, .rynn and Ross are bringing the warmth of Morocco to The Drake in Canmore — a new venue for us.

Join us for a presentation on rock climbing in Morocco, where world-class routes rise from desert landscapes and rich culture surrounds every crag. From the towering bolted limestone walls of Todra Gorge to the quartzite trad adventures of Tafraoute, Morocco delivers dramatically different climbing experiences in one unforgettable setting — think mint tea, desert sunsets, and evenings spent in quiet riads tucked inside the medina.

Show up early for a drink and to connect — presentation starts March 8 at 6:00 PM.

Join us February 12 at 7pm for this month’s social with Mark H, an IFMGA/ACMG Mountain Guide with nearly two decades working in mountain safety, specializing in mountain rescue and avalanche forecasting.

In 2024, a paragliding accident changed his life—resulting in the amputation of his left leg. What followed is a powerful story of resilience, acceptance, and rebuilding.

🍽️ Come to The Origin early for food, drinks, and to socialize.

A collection of photos from the Women’s Ice Progression Weekend with earlier this month. This two day course involved a day of Movement & Leading Progression as well as a day with Steeper ice and Mixed technique at a couple of our favourite crags. Thanks for everyone who took part and of course to Sarah for being awesome and teaching the clinic 😎 🏔️ 🧊 🌄.

Make sure to check out the RMS calendar for more great courses like these.

Facebook connect is a Meetup group is a space for Rocky Mountain Section members to connect. Instead of waiting for trips to be posted, use this group to find partners, propose ideas, and get out more often.
Have an alpine hike, scramble, ski tour, or climb in mind? Post it.
Looking for partners at a similar pace or experience level? Ask.
Want to join something informal or help turn an idea into a sanctioned trip? This is the place.
The goal is simple: more connections, more days in the mountains, and a stronger RMS community—while keeping ACC values of safety, learning, and stewardship front and centre.
This group complements (but doesn’t replace) official ACC trips and courses. It’s about starting conversations, building momentum, and making it easier to get outside together.
You can find the group in Facebook by searching “ACC Rocky Mountain Section — Connect”.
