Blackfoot Word of The Day🪶🌿🌊🤝🔥

SOYOHPAWAHKO

Pronounciation: (SO-YOH-PA-WAH-KO)

Meaning: "Ridge under water"

As the centre of Siksikaitsitapi (Blackfoot) territory, it was the site of Treaty No. 7 negotiations in 1877 and continues to be significant to the Siksika community. Through time and space, the Crossing serves as the thread that ties together historic events and natural features in a cultural landscape

As we roll through the 2026, we will continue to have Blackfoot word of the day every Monday! stay tuned for more language learning and fun!🪶🌿🌊🤝🔥

🎬 Soul of Miistaki x Howl Indigenous Film Night

📅 April 30, 2026
🕖 7:00 PM
🎟️ $20

Join us for our third annual Indigenous Film Night—an evening rooted in story, community, and connection to the land.

We’ll be showcasing a powerful lineup of Indigenous films that highlight the deep relationships between culture, identity, and the outdoors. Stick around after the screenings to hear from filmmakers and community youth leaders as they share insights and reflections on the stories being told.

This year, we’re honoured to welcome Connor Ryan ()—a proud Hunkpapa Lakota skier and advocate. Raised in the homelands of the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute peoples, Connor’s work is grounded in reconnecting, decolonizing, and honouring all his relations through movement on the land.

✨ This night is more than just film—it’s about community, learning, and creating space in the outdoors for everyone.
All proceeds go directly toward supporting the work of Soul of Miistaki and The Howl Experience.

🎟️ Tickets available through our Linktree, website, and the artsPlace website

As we transition into spring, we at Soul of Miistaki want to invite everyone to take this seasonal shift as a moment to check in with yourself. The change in season can be a good opportunity to slow down, find some rest, and reconnect with the people around you.

Step outside mindfully on the land.

Spring brings its own kind of adventure. From biking the Bow River Pathway to muddy runs in Bragg Creek, the season invites us to move, explore, and be intentional.

However you welcome the season, we hope it brings you moments of connection and a little more light.

Keep your eyes open for a spring Movie Night to connect with us soon. 🌱

This year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Give to Gain,” reminds us that when we create opportunities, share recognition, and invest resources in women, the impact multiplies.

At Soul of Miistaki, we see this philosophy come to life in our programs. When women are supported, they often create exponential growth, leadership, and opportunity for others.

In the spirit of Give to Gain, this March 8, 2026, we want to highlight two participants who have given so much back to our community. We have gained so much from Alizah and Jaiden, and we’re grateful to witness the ripple effect of their leadership and growth.
