Spirit of the Land

Spirit of the Land “Nothing so important as an ethic is ever 'written' – it arises in the hearts and minds of a thinking community.'” ~ Aldo Leopold

We are a group of students and teachers from the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta, with support from the Ronning Centre, who have been inspired to work together reshaping our connection to community and land. Our work began with creating awareness about hydraulic fracturing in Alberta. Last November we hosted “Responsibility for the Land: Conversations on Fracking in Alberta” (see: ht

tp://frackingab.wordpress.com/). This year we hope to deepen our scope. Inspired by the positive spirit of Idle No More, we have connected with First Nations leaders, farmers, scholars and ecologists and will be offering a conference in November 2013, as well as a supporting class. Events will be at the U of A’s Augustana Campus in Camrose. As this is a community-based initiative, everyone is welcome! Your suggestions and input are appreciated.
