Call it "being a human dummy."

But truly , babies don't even know that they're being judged.

They only know who feels safe.
Who comforts them.
Who comes when they cry.
Who helps them regulate a world that still feels big and unfamiliar.

Breastfeeding on demand isn't about creating dependency.

It's about meeting a need until that need naturally fades.

One day they won't need to nurse to sleep.
One day they won't reach for you every time they're upset.
One day they won't fit in your arms the way they do now.

So if loving them this way makes me a "human dummy" for a little while...

I'm okay with that. 🤍

Let's normalize breastfeeding 🩷

Before becoming a mother, I never really thought hard about breastfeeding in public.

Then I had a baby.

And suddenly I realized that hunger doesn't wait until you're home.
It doesn't wait until you're in the car.
It doesn't wait until you're somewhere private.

Babies get hungry while you're grocery shopping.
While you're at the park.
While you're sitting in a waiting room.
While you're trying to live your life.

So many mothers spend those early months learning not only how to feed their babies, but how to do it while navigating other people's opinions.

For me, feeding my baby has always mattered more than looking "convenient" to everyone around me.

No judgment for the mothers who use covers.
No judgment for the mothers who bottle feed.
No judgment for the mothers who do things differently.

Just a reminder that feeding a baby is never something to be ashamed of. 🤍

Did you ever feel nervous breastfeeding in public for the first time?

This Pride Month, we celebrate the many families who nurture, love, and care for their babies.

Families come from a wide range of backgrounds, experiences, and identities. They may also use different words to describe feeding their babies, including breastfeeding, nursing, chestfeeding, and other terms that feel right for them.

At La Leche League USA, our focus is supporting families in meeting their feeding goals with accurate information, compassionate peer support, and a welcoming community. Respecting the words people use for themselves helps more families feel seen, heard, and supported.

We are proud to support families from all walks of life during Pride Month and throughout the year!
