How's the View at Knight Inlet Lodge ... Pretty Spectacular!

I am sure all who have visited the Lodge over our 40 year history will recognize this stunning place.... Glendale Cove, the home of the mighty Grizzly and of Knight Inlet Lodge ... (if you squint you can almost see the Lodge 😉!)

Glendale Cove is home to one of the largest concentrations of Grizzly Bears in North America. Spring and Summer the Grizzlies feed on the cove’s abundance of sedge grasses, berries and shellfish in the inter-tidal zone. The returning salmon in the fall provide the high fat, high protein food source required for winter hibernation. This is a stunning setting in which to observe grizzly bears in their natural environment. The cove is also home to black bears, otters, deer, cougars, wolves and over a 250 species of birds, including bald eagles and other raptors.

Experience sustainable tourism and the Eco-Adventure of a lifetime at British Columbia’s original grizzly bear viewing lodge!

Knight Inlet Lodge is a First Nations-owned and operated resort located in the traditional territory of the Da’Naxda’xw Awaetlala First Nation in the Southern reaches of the Protected Great Bear Rainforest.

Planning a trip to the Broughtons this summer? If you’ll be visiting Kwikwasut’inuxw Haxwa’mis (KHFN) or Mamalilikulla Territory, please be aware that both Nations request a voluntary $20 per person, per day stewardship fee.

KHFN is collecting contributions to support the development of their Guardian Program, a key step in advancing Indigenous stewardship of their Territory. Mamalilikulla Guardians continue to patrol local waters and are based in 'Mimkwamlis (Village Island) to support safe and respectful visitation.

Refer to the BCMT map for site-by-site Nation guidelines and links to contribute to these important stewardship programs.

https://thetyee.ca/News/2026/06/09/Pursuit-Tiny-Owl-Nicknamed-Brad-Pitt/ We Wai Kai - Cape Mudge First Nation Guardians Scott Assu and Riley Ross-Nelson have been working with wildlife biologist Megan Buers on western screech owl research. “Our nation really cares about managing biodiversity, and all our species are extremely important to biodiversity,” Assu says. “We don’t want to watch any species go extinct on our territory.” As Indigenous guardians, Ross-Nelson and Assu are the “eyes and the ears on the territory,” Ross-Nelson says. Assu has just returned home for the summer from Vancouver, where he’s studying archeology at Simon Fraser University. Ross-Nelson, who previously worked in the logging industry, has helped Buers and Embree find and tag three owls over the last eight weeks. He also helped them set up autonomous recording units that will track bird calls and help determine where western screech owls live." Gilakas'la, you two!

Western screech owls are disappearing from BC. Join researchers on a tricky night mission to find out why.

June is National Indigenous History Month. As we celebrate the unwavering leadership of First Nations across the Great Bear region and beyond, we're spotlighting a book that speaks directly to that leadership. 📚

Katherine Palmer Gordon’s book "This Place is Who We Are" features 10 stories from First Nations communities that are reviving traditional stewardship practices, strengthening cultural connections to their lands and waters, and building healthy coastal economies.
