Just Like Home Lodge is open, and already making a difference.

It's hard to believe that the Just Like Home Lodge has been open for over a month already.

We have had some wonderful updates from the lodge staff and the Strathcona Regional District about the number of patients and loved ones from across the North Island and Coastal communities who have already been able to stay close to Campbell River Hospital when they need it most.

Whether someone is receiving treatment, recovering from a procedure, or simply wanting to be close to a loved on in the hospital, having a welcome place to stay can make an incredible difference.

Because access to healthcare isn't just about what happens inside the hospital. It is also about making sure people can get there, stay nearby, and have the support they need.

To everyone who helped bring the Just Like Home Lodge to life, thank you. What started as a vision is now providing comfort, connection, and peace of mind to North Island patients and their families.

And that is something worth celebrating.

Because being close to care, and close to the people you love - matters.

We support our Hospital. But we are not Island Health.

It's a distinction that isn't always clear, and we think it is important to explain.

We understand that healthcare can be frustrating and we regularly hear concerns from community members about hospital operations, staffing, parking, department closures, and other issues.

While we are ALWAYS happy to listen and help direct you to the appropriate Island Health representative, the Campbell River Hospital Foundation is an independent charity. We don't oversee hospital operations or make decisions about clinical services and policies.

What we can do is work alongside Island Health to help bring vital medical equipment, technology and educational opportunities to our hospital through the generosity of our donors.

We know that our healthcare system faces challenges, and we wish we could solve every concern that comes our way. While we can't change everything, we're committed to making a difference where we can.

Because at the end of the day, we're all part of the same community, and we all want the best possible healthcare for Campbell River.

Big Improvements come in smaller packages!

The Campbell River Hospital Laboratory has welcomed two new Hematology analyzers, thanks to the generosity of our donors.

At a combined cost of $125,561, these new analyzers are replacing equipment that was once nearly the size of a refrigerator. The new models are considerably smaller, but their impact on patient care is anything but.

Together, these machines will support blood testing for patients every day, providing fast, accurate results that help healthcare teams diagnose conditions, monitor treatments, and make important decisions about patient care.

From routing blood counts to more complex testing, much of the work happening behind the scenes in our hospital laboratory plays an essential role in the care patients receive.

This is what your donations make possible. New technology, more efficient testing, and the tools our healthcare teams need to care for our community.

💙 37 patients. 20 months. One important difference in local maternity care.

Sometimes, making healthcare more accessible starts with something as simple as having a blood pressure monitor available to take home.

Thanks to donor support, the Perinatal Blood Pressure Cuff Lending Library at Campbell River Hospital helps ensure that patients experiencing financial hardship can access reliable home blood pressure monitoring when they need it.

For new mothers at risk of hypertension, monitoring blood pressure at home is an important part of safe postpartum care.

Over the past 20 months, the program has provided blood pressure cuffs to 37 patients with hypertension. That's 37 people who have been able to access this important part of their care without the added financial burden of purchasing their own equipment.

And the program is growing!

Working with TELUS Health, the maternity team has expanded the lending library and launched PHAB-MOM (Perinatal Hypertension Ambulatory Blood Pressure – Maternal Outpatient Monitoring), a first for Island Health's perinatal care, with the potential to expand to other birth sites.

One message from the maternity team really captures why this matters:
"Your support has truly made a difference to the perinatal community."
