Welcome new features in the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands. On behalf of all of us who love Beaver Lodge, we are very grateful to the City and to Rotary!

🚻 New Washrooms Now Open at Beaver Lodge Lands!

We’re excited to share that the City of Campbell River has partnered with the Campbell River Rotary to install new public washrooms at the entrances of Trask Road and Holm Road/Airport Main into Beaver Lodge Lands.

The City contributed $45,000 toward this $97,000 project and will cover ongoing maintenance, while the Campbell River Rotary funded the remaining costs.

The washrooms are now officially open and will provide a much‑needed amenity for everyone enjoying Beaver Lodge Lands. 🌲✨

Thank you to the Rotary Club of Campbell River, City staff and all those involved for helping make this community improvement possible!

Were you in Campbell River in 1994? Do you remember the controversy about preserving the Beaver Lodge Lands? City Council planned to create a new residential subdivision on the site. A tenacious group of citizens were vocal in opposing the plan - and won! What a loss it would have been to our Community if City Council had won that battle.

The ERT (Homewood to Evergreen) is a valuable part of the Greenways Loop which connects to the Beaver Lodge Rail trail. The ERT is a unique traffic free corridor for pedestrians, cyclists, dog walkers and wildlife. Council want to open this portion of the Greenways Loop to traffic.

You can make your thoughts known to Council at the Quinsam Heights Draft Plan Open House.

📢 a reminder to keep yourself, your children, AND your PETS out of the streams!

🫵YOU have an important role in protecting our streams for spawning salmon and egg survival. Simms Creek and tributaries within the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands are home to spawning coho.

Wondering what these little cuties in the Beaver Lodge Forest Lands are? Bunchberries! Also known as creeping dogwood or Cornus canadensis, they have four-lobed white flowers in the spring.

A common question along Beaver Lodge trails is, "What is that, with those big, huge maple-like leaves?!" It's Devil's Club - a plant grizzly. Nasty spines stud the stem and even the underside of the leaf. Just touching it can cause skin irritation. Herbal uses for Devil's Club do exist, but it's best admired from a distance!

"Speak!" is a handy command to warn a bear or cougar that you and doggo are around. Use it every 3-5 minutes on isolated trails. This dog learned to speak via the method found on Youtube's: "Teach dog to stop barking - bark and quiet on cue."

The red elderberries in Beaver Lodge are a pretty sight this year. The whole plant and its berries are food for our wildlife. For humans, the berries make you ill if eaten raw. Even cooked, they have an unlovable pungent flavor. Many First Nations used the plants medicinally or found ways of preparation and storage to make the berries a bit more tolerable. Without that expertise, we can still enjoy looking at them!
