Who is Hugo?????
We’ve been slowly refreshing some of the old bulletin boards around the building to better highlight all the amazing groups, rehearsals, programs, and community activity happening here these days.

And while pulling one of the boards apart, we found this little hidden message scratched underneath:
“I ♥ HUGO.”

No idea who Hugo is… but apparently someone was very committed.

A couple weeks later and we’re still thinking about how good the Cambridge Symphony Orchestra concert sounded in the sanctuary.

The mix of the orchestra, the youth performers, and a room full of people listening together made for a really memorable night. There were moments where the whole building just felt full in the best way.

Big thank you to Cambridge Symphony Orchestra, the Cambridge Youth Orchestra, and everyone involved in bringing the concert to life!

We’re excited to introduce one of the groups using space at Preston Commons at St. Peters

Meet Chamber Ensembles — a really special intergenerational ensemble bringing together musicians across generations. They’ve been rehearsing in the Sanctuary and working on some beautiful, lesser-known quintets by Robert Kahn and Ralph Vaughan Williams.

Honestly, one of the best parts of this work is walking through the building on a rehearsal day and hearing music carry through the hallways. It changes the whole feel of the space.

This is exactly what we hope Preston Commons can be — a place that’s used, shared, and full of life.

So glad to have you as part of the community

As Preston Commons continues to grow, we’ve been thinking a lot about what will make a space work for the local community.

We recently came across Community by Design by Waterloo Region Community Foundation, a podcast about “social infrastructure” — and it really reflects what we’re trying to build here.

Not just a building people use, but a space that supports connection, activity, and everyday community life.

If you’re curious about where this is all heading (or why it matters), this is a great listen.

Creative space in action.

Preston Commons offers flexible rooms that are ideal for rehearsals and creative work. Music groups (like shown in the picture), theatre companies, and arts organizations use the space to practice, develop new work, and bring their ideas to life.

A welcoming place for creative groups looking for a regular space to rehearse and grow.

One of the groups helping bring Preston Commons to life is Penny & Pound Theatre Productions

If you’ve ever walked through the building during one of their rehearsals, you know the energy they bring — scripts in hand, scenes taking shape, and a historic space filling up with creativity.

We love having Penny & Pound as part of the Preston Commons community and can’t wait to see what they create next.
