Feminine Harbor

Feminine Harbor Illuminating women's experiences through storytelling. Igniting female leadership through education. Inspiring a better world through beauty and the arts.

I have been observing that in many instances, we women are incredibly resilient, but we are also quiet. We quietly take on huge burdens and isolate ourselves, instead of bringing light to some issues where we could educate ourselves more, find more information about and become more knowledgeable, for example, about our own bodies, our own health, our own sexuality. Issues such as miscarriages, pel

vic health after giving birth, postpartum depression, sexual harassment, sexual assault, or raising our own children with depression remain as taboos and we often just talk about them in the fringes, quietly between the cracks of our daily routines. Feminine Harbor is an attempt to bring women together to hear one another, to help one another with their own stories, their own experiences. We are our most valuable resources. And it's also an attempt to give women a space to find their voices, to connect in real life, beyond the virtual world. Real meetings will be scheduled regularly and they will be posted here. With each meeting, it is my hope that those who decide to come, will find connections, will feel less alone. I hope we can share stories, share resourceful information, and help one another grow, and go even further in life. I strongly believe that it is time for women to organize themselves and to truly help one another by creating more safe, and feminine harbors everywhere. The topics for each meeting will be posted here along with the calendar. Suggestions are welcome. Sincerely, Carolina Miranda

Introducing our fourth speaker. Veronica Johnson.

Veronica is a mom, grandmother, world traveler, and pastry chef. Born on the island of St. Lucia, Veronica dreamed of someday travelling the world. Becoming a mother at a young age, changed some of those plans but not for long. She finally landed here in the Kitchener-Waterloo region in an effort to help your daughter grow her business. But it has been through a continued love of travelling and her art, that Veronica shares a story of what it means to survive in a system that was not created for her.

Our second speaker Elfie is an artist, published author and professor. Her work is inspired by play, the occult and consciousness. It is both an extension of her solitary spiritual practice and an unyielding captivation with chance and synchronicity. It’s rooted in a refined intuitive process, and is multidisciplinary. Primarily driven by the intuitive process, her work spans over a breadth of styles. In her multimedia experiments (such as collage, printmaking, illustration, filmmaking, street art, and even fire), the common threads are an incessant need to communicate intuitive revelations accurately and heal trauma. Her work is an act of ritual and a journey of self-discovery and healing. She aspires to use her artwork as a means of breaking down social stigmas and barriers towards spiritual concepts. She has a passion for female empowerment and mental health advocacy.

This past Thursday, on September 22nd, Fall Equinox, these incredibly loving, strong, resilient women came together for yet again another

Amongst the many technical difficulties we faced during this past event, our instagram had completely frozen on us. We couldnt do lives, post pictures, nothing much at all really.

So it took us until now to share a little glimpse of the last event.

To all the women involved, thank you so much for your incredibly generous sharing and brilliant minds and aligned hearts.

To our audience, thank you so much for continuing to show up, for continuing to support us and inspiring us to keep going.

This is always our favorite promo photo. The weaving of the parts, the coming together of many different corners, from different experiences, through the different times, with a shared purpose of telling a human story, igniting our light with each other's .

Look carefully. Very carefully. Two Black women of very different backgrounds, a Chinese-Canadian woman, an Indigenous woman, a White woman, a Sikh woman - not simply working to achieve something in tech or professionally - actually daring to be real and vulnerable together.

We often wonder if this kind of world is at all possible beyond our tiny but mighty events. But while we wonder... we also create it, with our own sometimes tired, but always daring hands.

This during 's we have four new storytellers! But we also have a pretty spectacular MC who brings a lot of legitimacy to our work simply with her beautiful presence and journey.

Patra van Herksen is an Afro-European mother and the evolutionary woman behind Two Feet Apart - a multidimensional platform consisting of a storytelling podcast, and an inclusivity resource library for businesses and content creators.

She was also one of Feminine Harbor's earliest storytellers, many years ago, when we were still at the physical location for Open Sesame - a lovely, edgy bookshop / gallery that used to be by Kitchener's city hall.

Patra is one of our very own threads, as she publicly shared in a recent that she embarked on a journey of healing and self discovery after that event, so many years ago now.

And so onwards we go, through the light stories... While some of us begin to learn how to navigate this grand adventure we call life, others begin to learn how important it is to hold this harbor we call home strong and steady...
