Ten-year-old Grant never expected that a wrong address would change his family’s life. One day, he went with his mother as she searched for work. She had seen an announcement about available jobs, but they accidentally went to the wrong address and walked into a church instead. When Grant’s mother asked if they were hiring, church members told her they didn’t have any jobs but they could offer her family another kind of support.
After learning that she had two children, they told her about the church’s free day center, where children could come after school for homework help, nutritious meals, activities, friendship, and opportunities to learn about God. The very next day, Grant’s mother brought him and his 8-year-old sister, Gohar, to the center.
For two months, Grant and Gohar have been regular participants. Grant has made new friends, received help with his homework, played games, learned new things, and heard more about God and His love. He also had the opportunity to attend the center’s summer day camp, where he enjoyed games, contests, songs, Bible stories, and fun activities each day.
The children received Christian books to take home, which Grant enjoys reading, and church members have visited their family twice to talk about Jesus, pray with them, and offer encouragement. This support has been especially meaningful as Grant’s father recovers from leg surgery and struggles to walk.
Grant now believes that his family didn’t walk into that church by accident—God led them there. He is thankful for the day center, summer camp, new friends, and caring people God has placed in his life. His prayer is that his father will recover and that one day his whole family will attend church, learn about God together, and put their trust in Jesus Christ.
