As children across Canada head off to Vacation Bible School and church camps this summer, thousands of young people across Eurasia are still waiting to hear about Jesus for the very first time.

“On that day, I made the most important decision of my life and repented,” shares Valentina. “Because of Jesus, my life now has meaning, and I am enjoying every moment with Him.”

Like many children and teens in Eurasia, Valentina did not grow up in a Christian home. When she asked questions about Jesus, her parents warned her not to get involved with a Christian “cult.” As a result, she declined the first invitation she received to attend one of our summer Bible camps.

But our School Without Walls students didn't give up on her. Through their friendship and encouragement, Valentina eventually received permission to attend a youth Bible camp last summer, and that's where her life changed forever.

“I am so thankful for the SWW students who befriended me and invited me to camp,” she says. “My life will never be the same.”

Matthew was just four years old when he lost his mother, but Summer of Hope Bible camp changed his life.

When he attended a Summer of Hope Bible Camp in his hometown of Yekaterinburg for the very first time, during a Bible lesson, the teacher asked the children what they would most like to ask Jesus. Matthew’s answer revealed the pain he has carried for years: “I would ask for my mother to rise again.”

In that moment, young Christian leaders gently shared the Gospel with him and explained the hope of eternal life found in Christ. Alongside the other children at camp, Matthew learned and memorized Psalm 31:15: “But I trust in you, Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hands.”

Throughout camp, Matthew spent much of his free time reading the Bible he received. For a child who has experienced such profound loss, God’s Word became a source of comfort, truth, and hope.

The impact of camp didn’t end when he went home. The young leaders who served at camp plan to stay connected with Matthew, invite him to Sunday school, and encourage him as he continues to grow in his faith and discover God’s love for him.

For 16-year-old Sophia, one week at a Bible camp changed everything.

Across Eurasia, young Christian leaders are stepping into similar roles and lives are being changed because of it.

When sixteen-year-old Dasha served as a Summer of Hope camp mentor, it was her first leadership role, and she embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm, faith, and a desire to serve others.

"The camp gave me a chance to apply what I've been learning [in School Without Walls]. I was thrilled to serve the kids and talk to them about God. It was meaningful and rewarding. I improved my discipline and responsibility and became better at explaining the Gospel," Dasha shared.

Dasha's story is a powerful reminder that Summer of Hope is about transforming the lives of children and equipping the next generation of Christian leaders.
